David Stone dumped the last bucket of horse feed into the flat back bucket hanging against the stall wall. He had brought all seven of his horses in that night as the weather was supposed to turn bad. He didn't want them out as the summer was prone to some nasty thunderstorms with high winds and plenty of lightening. The weather man had predicted just such a event for tonight.

David made his way to the small ranch house he called home and headed for the shower. It was almost time for him to head to "TThe Watering Hole" called simply "The Hole" by the locals. Tonight was Friday night and that meant Ms. Mary would be cooking her famous chicken and biscuits. The Hole served as the towns nicest bar out of the grand total of three bars. It also had a restaurant with an excellent cook who's husband also owned the place. David looked at his reflection in the mirror and traced his finger over the small scar on his chin he had as a reminder of two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He was a handsome man though in a rugged outdoors kind of way. He looked like a man that could take care of himself and one most people didn't want to cross. But he also had a soft side a kindness and honesty that came from somewhere deep down inside of him.

David dressed and headed out the door his stomach rumbling in anticipation of the meal waiting on him. He made his way through the small town of about 20,000 though the population swelled to twice that during the summer due to hunters, fishermen, and people just looking to get away from the hectic life of the big city. The pristine forests, crystal clear lakes and hundreds of miles of hiking trails drew them like moths to a flame. This was set to a backdrop of beautiful mountains filled with wild life.

The parking lot of The Hole was full and David pulled his jeep up on the grass beside the lot. He could already smell the please aroma coming from the kitchen and he quickened his pace.

He quietly slipped into the establishment and found a seat near the end of the bar hopefully where he would be left alone. Don the bar owner greater him and yelled back to the kitchen, "David us here." That was all it took as Mrs Mary knew exactly what that meant and began preparing him a plate. A second later and a cold Coors appeared in front of him.

David settled back and began to survey the place seeing numerous locals and a few faces he assumed were tourists.

Patricia Trish" Mcdaniel parked her rented car in the motel parking and decided to walk her way to the diner most ofnthe locals directed her to.

Being a celebrity and model she felt great leaving town a few days and being alone because the pressure of being smothered by the public and media was getting to be a bit much ever since her breakup a few months back,

She wore a fitted pair of skinny jeans with sandal wedge heels big glasses and a regular tshirt that had the kiss logo on it. She knew she stuck out like a sore thumb and this town was nothing like she was used to in the city.

She approched the bar sighing seeing it was a longer walk then she had expected she entered the bar looking for a seat and she spotted one empty towards the back near the rear exit.

She quickly ducked into a booth not wanting to get noticed and saw a meal being brought to the man behind her. Her stomach growled with approval of the smell and she gave a small smile to the waitress and ordered a few drinks needing them afrer her 8 hour drive.

She drank some shots with her appetizer and then waited for her meal.

David watched the attractive woman that seemed to be trying her best not to be noticed. She was a very attractive woman and judging by the way she was dressed he knew that she wasn't from around here that was for sure.

He wondered if perhaps she was a wife out on a secret rendezvous with a boyfriend. But it was none of his business and his food arrived which was the main thing on his mind. He began eating and heard the girl now seated behind him order something as well. She had a slight accent that he was unable to place and once again he turned his attention back to his food.

A few minutes later the Norris brothers entered the bar being loud and obnoxious as usual. They were the town's resident trouble makers and were known to fight, grow a little weed and they especially enjoyed intimidating female tourists and any male companions they might have.

David had tangled with them on more than one occasion the first one was by chance when he hired them to do a little work on the ranch. They showed up still drunk from the night before and when he caught them a few days later planting weed on the backside of his property they had to go. They at first tried to threaten him like they do everyone else but after breaking the older brothers nose and then putting the younger one on his ass not once but twice they decided it was time to move on.

The second time involved them attempting to hit on one of the high school cheerleaders after a football game and when they saw him walking towards them they left in a hurry. Since then they gave him a wide berth as he had made them a promise that they didn't want him to come looking for them.

He wondered why the were here as this was not their normal hang out. It was usually a dive bar down the road or the strip club just outside of town. It was then they seemed to notice the strange woman seated behind him. He had remained in the darkness with his cap pulled down and they hadn't spotted him just yet.

Tricia saw the two men who worked at the motel enter the bar being rowdy and loud and they made their way to sit. She quickly put her head down sipping her drink not wanting them to notice she was there after they so boldly tried to hit on her when she was checking in and she pretended to be air headed brushing off their attempts.

She heard two pairs of boots headed her way and sighed as the two men spotted her and she looked up to two wide grins and ogling eyes "Well if it aint the pretty little Californian girl..what was ur name ..uhhh Becky"the older one said nudging his brother.

"Rebecca"Trish said sipping her drink trying her best to get rid of the two

" We was wondering if you wanted a bit of company. .."the younger one said

"Wouldn't want a beautiful girl like you eatin alone"the other one finished and slid in beside her the younger one sliding in across from her.

They surrounded her and she saw the waitress approaching with her food "I was actually going I noticed that the sky was getting stormy and wanted to get back before it rained."

"I can get you back..help you relax"the older one said placing his hand on her leg rubbing in and moving slowly toward her inner thigh.

She gave him a small smile as the waitress placed her drink on her table and she stood pouring it over his head causing him to fly out of the seat from the coldness she quickly moved asking them to wrap her food and told the guy. "No way will that be happening and keep your hands to yourself"

She saw how pissed he was as he screamed at the waitress to get a napkin and glared at her saying "Youll regret it bitch"

David watched the two brothers approach the woman and began their normal charming way with the ladies. He thought to himself, "here we go again."

Voices rose in the booth next to him and suddenly on of the brothers jumped up cussing water dripping from his hair. David was unable to conceal a laugh and had to hand this woman she seemed to be a bit of a hell cat.

Hearing the now soaking wet brother threaten her was the moment he had been waiting for.

David stood and stepped behind them, "Are you boys just stupid or were you born that way? I think the lady has made it clear she doesn't want to spend any more time with you fine inbred gentleman. So do yourselves a favor and save on a hospital bill and just leave."

He usually didn't resort to threats or this sort of bravado but they understood this type of language and he didn't want to bloody up his friends bar.

The two brothers glared at him recognition coming slowly due to their alcohol addled brains and their lack of intelligence to begin with. Self preservation ran high with these two and they looked at the lady one last time. "Not a word to her now get out before you have to be carried out."
The brothers turned and left without a word.

David looked at the woman and smiled, "Well I see you met the towns welcome committee. Are you alright?"

Tricia looked at the two men leave the bar then looked at the man standing in front of her and smiled "Im fine thanks" she said straightening her dress " Thanks though I can't say it'll be the same when I get back to my motel room those two work there. Intakenit you've had trouble with the two of them in the past huh?" She sighed looking at the mess in the booth and apologized to the waitress for it.

She looked outside hearing thunder and sighed " I better go back..thanks again looks like it is gonnanbe a bad storm so i better go.." she said to the man

He realized her dilemma staying in the same hotel where the two brothers currently worked as maintenance men.

"Yes I'm very familiar with those two as are most people in town. I wouldn't suggest you staying at that hotel so you should probably try and find another room somewhere though this time of year it might be hard so many tourists and all."

He heard the thunder as well, "Did you walk here, I would be glad to drive you and escort you to your room. I know that I'm a stranger and you will probably decline but I could call you cab and just follow in my Jeep to make sure you get in alright."

Sticking out his hand he said, "I'm David".

Tricia sighed knowing that the man was right that she should switch hotels and she hesitated taking his offer for a ride then she saw it begin to rain buckets she nodded and said " I guess a ride wouldnt be too bad" she said giving a small smile "Im P-Rebecca nide to meet you" she said grabbing his hand and shaking it

She studied the mans features and hid her slight blush. She didn't think she would be into the rugged cowboy type but something about David made her trust him and a bit curious." So ummm David ..do you know any other places I could get in this type of weather this late? I know check in must be closed and I dont think id be comfortable staying alone in my room knowing those two will be watching me"

David took Rebecca's hand and shook it though not tightly but it was a warm firmly grip.

"I would love to give you a ride and as far as a place to stay let me make a quick phone call."

The phone call was brief and to a few friends that owned or worked the desks at the local hotels an Inns. Hanging up he turned to Rebecca, "Sorry I called everyone I know and all the rooms are full. However, there is one option that you may or may not be interested in."

He paused afraid she would get the wrong idea.

"I have a small ranch and there is a cabin that actually no one has ever lived or stayed in fully furnished. I would be glad to let you stay there if you like. Don't worry I won't be staying there I have another cabin on the property I live on so you would be all by yourself. If you needed anything I'm only a two minute walk away and there would be no local redneck trash to deal with."

She watched him on the phone speaking and was a bit upset there werent any free rooms.

Tricia thought silently for a moment. She could stay in the room she was in and try avoiding the two men during her stay but she unsafe and her bodyguard was not there to protect her and she doubted pepper spray and a lipstick taser could hold those large men off.

She looked at David and said" I think staying in the cabin should be just fine for me and much roomier then the place im at now id just have to get my things into my car and I can follow you there?" She said and smiled "You wouldn't mind waiting for me would you?"

David liked her smile it seemed genuine and honest not forced and fake. The only problem was that she didn't seem used to smiling like that.

"That's fine with me and I wouldn't mind at all helping you get your things." David opened up the door to the Jeep and held an old umbrella that he found in a can beside the front of the bars door. Once inside he closed it and replaced the umbrella from where he had gotten it.

David climbed into the Jeep soaking wet his clothes clinging to his body especially his tee shirt which now molded to his muscular form built from years of active military duty and plain old hard work.

He looked over to his passenger, "Sorry about the noise in here a soft top doesn't do much to insulate from road noise but at least you are dry. So where did you say you were staying?"

Tricia tried keeping her eyes off the clothes clinging to the attractive man's body and glued her eyes outside the window for a few moments while he settled in the car. He asked her where she was staying and she said " Fowley Inn.. im on the balcony room 24" she said fumbling through her bag for her key card.

"I dont have much David..I haven't even unpacked yet.., besides I think you should dry off in the room first or we at least stay there until the rain dies down a little because this weather isnt really good to drive in"

David considered her offer of drying off in her room and waiting for the storm to calm down. He had to admit a section of the road leading to his small ranch did have a few sharp curves and the road was a bit narrow. However he just didn't think he would be acting like a gentleman if he just went up and into this young woman's room.

"I appreciate the offer mam but I can just stay here and wait till you come out and till the rain stops. I really don't want to make you uncomfortable being alone with you in your room. I'm not sure that is what would be considered proper."

Tricia smiled and nodded seeing the man was a complete gentleman for not wanting to go up to her room and she chuckled knowing exactly what it would look like if the two of them had been in the room and came out after the storm.

She would feel bad though leaving him in the rain to wait for her though. She looked at him and said " Ok how about this?..We park somewhere dry near the hotel and wait it out until the storm passes and then we can get my things? Id feel bad leaving you out in the rain to wait alone especially since you are doing me a favor and letting me stay at your ranch. I can drive my car back then as well"

He thought for only a second, "You have a deal mam. Now we just need to pass the time though storms around here usually pass fairly quickly come in hard and fast but they don't tend to hang around for the duration."

He tilted his head looking up at the sky and drove them over to a little small park with a view of a river now a rushing torrent due to the storm. It was just around the corner from her hotel and at least gave them something to look at.

David turned back to her, "Well Ms. Rebecca are you here long and understand this cabin is being used for nothing so it is yours to use as long as you need to."

As they chatted the rain dwindled and the wind began dying down.

Tricia smirked at being called Rebecca and was still getting used to it. " You can just call me becky David and..ill be here for a month. I needed a break from everything and my boss understood that and granted me vacation time. I was going cross country gut then I stopped here and something about staying in this small town for a while drew me in." She said and smiled.

She cracked open her plate and decided to eat it while it was warm. She looked over at the man and offered some "Would you like to try?" She said

He listened intently and liked hearing her voice it was pleasing to him and soothed him greatly. "Alright Ms. Becky it is and you are welcome to stay the month if you like but I won't be offended if you decide to go somewhere else."

She opened her to go box and his stomach rumbled as he hadn't finished his meal after the interruption and he hadn't thought of getting it to go.

"No I can't eat your food you are probably starving go ahead and finish it." He reached into the back seat opening a Yeti cooler and removed a bottle of cold water.

"Here is something to wash it down with and I have stronger at home if you prefer later."

The storm was almost past but was about five minutes from being done by his guess and he was content sharing his car chatting with this beautiful lady that had appeared out of no where.

David reached up to turn on the radio and asked if she liked music or what kind.

Tricia ate half of her meal offering him the other half. She insisted he take it because she was full (and she had to still watch what she ate). She enjoyed spending time with this man and his accent and voice seemed to call to her.

She was glad she had met someone in this town who seemed to be understanding and down to earth far different then what she was used to being an actress the honesty was refreshing. "I like anything that sounds good and makes sense honestly. I like variety"she grinned "What kind of music do you like?"

"Rock mostly some country as well. And on a lazy rainy evening I enjoy some blues or classical music."

The rain had all but stopped and David looked over at her. "So Ms. Becky are you ready to get your stuff? That is correct I hope I don't mean to assume or offend it is Ms. Becky not Mrs. Becky?"

He honestly hoped he was correct in his assumption that she was single cause he liked her for one though he wasn't sure he could ever escape his own relationship demons even if she showed interest. And why would she show interest in some ex military guy who was now nothing more than a small time rancher. She was a beautiful woman full of life and there were much better options out there than himself.

Tricia smiled " Its Ms and Im more than ready David I need a serious sleep after my long drive"she laughed " This is ok with the lady of your house right?...If you have one David?"she said not wanting any problems.

She sat back as he started the engine somewhere deep in herself hoping he was not married although she wouldn't be surprised due to his rugged good looks and his manly features.

They arrived at the hotel and she escorted them to her room. She unlocked the door quickly passing one of the brothers on the way there. She grabbed one of her bags and pointed to the other which David had grabbed for her

"Well the cabin is quiet and you will be able to sleep your little heart out that's for sure. No there is no Mrs. for me never been married and no kids. Engaged once but that is a faded memory."

He looked a bit sad and hurt when he spoke of being engaged but didn't elaborate.

David eyed the brother as they past him and he quickly moved out of their way though he knew that he would assume they were going back to her room to have sex. Well perhaps that wouldn't be so bad if they thought she was with him they would leave her alone hopefully but he didn't want any wild indecent rumors spread around town about David and the new girl in town.

He let her go first and then followed to her car placing her bag in the trunk. "Did we miss anything or you all ready to go?"

Tricia shook her head " Nope thats everything"she said and smiled thanking him. "Get in ill drive you around to your car and I can follow you back to the ranch"she said.

Once he settled in and was back in his jeep she followed him to his ranch. It was a bit of a drive but not too long and it was dark out once they got there.

She looked at the distance between his house and the cabin which wasn't too bad but she still felt a little bit nervous staying alone.

"You sure its ok to stay out here myself right?" She said as he ushered her into the cabin carrying her things

As they entered the cabin he turned on the lights and she could see it was fully furnished though it looked as if no one had ever spent a single night here before. There were no personal affects anywhere and it was obviously custom built down to hand hewn boards.

He showed her around including the hot tub that dominated the bathroom. "The kitchen doesn't have any food but I can bring over some stuff from my house. I'm sure you would be safe here but if it makes you more comfortable I can bunk out on the porch if you like."

He thought about suggesting he could stay in the spare bedroom but that was probably asking to much.

Tricia looked around the nice place and knew that the hot tub would probably be the first thing shed be using to relax her muscles. She noticed and extra room and said " Or you can sleep in here? Unless you prefer your own bed. I can go into town in the morning and pick up some groceries as well I wouldn't want to take advantage of you like that especially with the hospitality you have given me David" she said moving toward a window looking at the sky.

" You want to relax a bit on the porch? Im not ready for sleep just yet and the sky is just...breathtaking. I dont really get to see it like this where km from and i never knew how beautiful it was"

David looked shyly at her and said, "Alright I will take the other bed room and a sit out on the front porch in the swing might be nice as well. I could use the company honestly. But let me brew some coffee." David went into the kitchen and began brewing up a pot of coffee, "Do you like coffee?"
