It means rethinking how we do public safety in America and examining what led America to militarize civilian law enforcement and how and why it diverged from the mission of "to serve and protect". It also means looking at who benefitted and asking why property is prioritized over peoples rights as citizens and their lives. It means rethinking how we spend our tax dollars to achieve the positive social consequences of public safety and citizen adherence to the law.

It does not mean no police. It does not mean a descent into vigilantism, a dystopian future, crime "against whites"or increases in crime. It does not mean "the thugs are in charge (thank you Tucker "asshole" Carlson for that one).

There are literally tens of thousands of mentally ill people including drug addicts on the streets of major cities. This is not new. The situations has been lamented all over the country as services have been cut, eliminated or reduced because government budgets have been stretched. In many regions of the country there are literally very few or NO beds for individuals who are not well and need to be seen by professionals. There are less services for addicts. Less services for the abused.

Police, hospitals, and non-profit entities have had to pick up the slack all over the country. This has put law enforcement in difficult circumstances. They are often working with the non-profits or other NGOs to patch together something to help people in need. Cops of all races spend a lot of time transporting unwell people to hospitals or shelters. Cops of all races have literally paid for hotel rooms for those in need. Never hear about that stuff. It doesn't fit the narrative.
