Luc Bat (Vietnamese for six eight)

Vietnamese form poetry, as Stephen Fry says in his book “The Ode Less Travelled”, it is easier to do than to explain.

The syllable count is 6, 8, 6. 8, 6. 8 and so on until the poet reaches the final 6, 8. There is no fixed length. The final line rhymes with the first.

Fry’s example

Luc Bat is rather cute
It keeps the mind astute and pert
It doesn’t really hurt
To keep the mind alertly keen
You’ll know just what I mean
When you have gone and been and done
Your own completed one
It’s really rather fun to do
Full of subtly too
I hope that yours earns you repute.

Rhyming scheme -

*****a cute
*****a*b astute, pert
*****b hurt
*****b*c alertly, keen
*****c mean
*****c*d been, done
*****d one
*****d*e fun, do
*****e too
*****e*a you, astute

My quick and not very good attempt……

This year I got a gift
That lifted my spirits quite well
The mailman rang the bell
And though he couldn’t tell I knew
The package was from you
I’d felt quite blue but now you’re here
The parcel brought you near
Not clear across the continent
To please was your intent
It went so well, narrowed the rift.

Just something to scrape the season's blahs off your brains.

Are you attempting to give out multiple brain haemoraghes for Christmas :D
I shall attempt this one though all in the name of insanity ;)

Such an insanity,
against humanity, it's clear,
that all that we hold near
and dear to our very hearts will
have to come forth, to spill
itself unfiltered on the page
making us fool and sage;
Why wage such a calamity?

Fry's book is a good book.
Follow the bold pattern visually - Interlocking triads, I believe I may have mentioned that before. Probably a very effective psychological tool.
But as per usual I have nothing worthwhile to add here.

Reconciliation

I would I still loved you,
I mean, I do, but not the same
as when we played the game
of making the flame between us
flare up with little fuss,
not even the rush of winter
could spoil, could not splinter,
or hinder in the littlest way.
What's there for me to say?
Come and play, it's better with two.
