i know a bunch of us are trying to lose weight and just become healthier in general, so i figured this might be a fun place for us all to come together and support each other. Let's talk about what works, what doesn't...and how to do this the best way possible... Most importantly, let's all be there for each other as we sometimes struggle with these issues.

i'll post my "story" for lack of a better word, later tonight...but i just wanted to get the thread up and started. Lord knows, i feel like i need all the help/support i can get.

I think this is a great idea :)

My mother is a nutritionist so I've always grown up eating healthy. Well knowing HOW to eat healthy. Doing it is another matter really...

Sometimes you can't deny the craving for junk food.

Anyway, I will add more later because I'm sure I'll have a lot to say here!

I've decided that I'm not going to be the fat girl when I start law school next fall. Kitty and I started exercising and eating better this week. I got my hair cut today (and may color it tonight), which is already making me feel better about myself. I have about 100 pounds to lose before I'm back to my pre-birth control weight. Another 25 pounds would be a great bonus. I'm 5'9" and want to weigh somewhere in the 150-175 range. You do the math.

Thank you Hottie Mama. This is a really good idea... my weight gain stemmed from quitting smoking and I've been so depressed about it that I haven't even noticed any health benefits to quitting... I'm 5'2" with a really small frame and would like to get down to + - 110lbs...

Ok..i guess i'll post now since i seem to have some time.

i left the hospital after having my son at about 275...and pathetically disgusted with the way i look. Since late November, i have lost 80lbs, which is a HUGE accomplishment, but i still have a long ways to go. My first goal is 170, after i hit that i will reevaluate and see how much further i want to go. i'm 5'7", so by those horrid height/weight charts i should weigh about 120...but i KNOW that's an impossibility given my bone structure/body type. Besides, i don't want to be overly thin. i prefer to still be curvy...just not the lumpy blob i am now.

i'm slowly discovering that my weight/food issues have affected every area of my life...and likewise working on them is making every area of my life better.

I've been lurking here for about 2 months but I'll pop in on this thread :)

My hubby and I have been working hard to get healthier for a myriad of reasons: to pass his PT test :D , for me to feel better about myself, to ensure we have a long and happy life ahead of us together, etc.

Since March 1, 2007, I've lost around 30 pounds and have about 30 more to go. I dropped a lot of weight at the start by going back to work and giving up sodas (can't do straight water, that's icky, but I really like the Crystal Light powders that fit in a 16.9 oz bottle of water...only 10 calories total and I drink a lot more water now because of them), and now it's changing the diet and doing yoga/pilates 3 times a week on top of my work schedule, a round of disc golf every weekend (or some other outdoor activity like letterboxing, geocaching, or just plain hiking), and just becoming more active in general.

I've used these websites to help me get on track with BMI/calorie counting. I refuse to use diet pills and allow myself a day every week or every other week to be naughty and go out to my favorite restaurant (usually Mexican, which is very high in sodium).

Calorie Count - Wonderful website where you can track your calories, weight, BMI, and caloric allowance and see just how bad certain foods are for you.

The World's Healthiest Foods - this site categorizes all the best foods to help you make good choices.

The Daily Plate - this one I use to complement Calorie Count as it has a bigger variety of foods as well as more restaurants.

I'm 5' 4" and currently weigh 164. My goal weight is 132 (though I might go a tad lower if possible). I plan to reward myself at 150...either a day at the spa or something similar. I'd love to make my goal weight by January, 2008, but I don't see that happening unless my activity level seriously increases (with the holidays and my working retail, it might) and I develop a fondness for tuna *shudders* which I doubt.

Good luck to everyone!!! :)

These links are really great! Thank you.

You're welcome :) I really like Calorie Count...you can plug in your weight each day (or weekly, like I prefer) and it keeps track of your average on a nice little chart. It's always great to watch the line keep going down :)

I'm in! My weight has been creeping up recently due to stress, overwork, not eating well enough (and I also think, based on a recent 2 months of intense exercise - 2+ hours per day with not one pound of weight loss that my thyroid is acting up again). Want to lose about 35 from my current weight (at my heaviest, I weighed 213 am now at 175). Would love support in a kinky community (tried other online support groups but there is so much that I don't say, lol). Oh, another good free site - can track calorie and nutrient intake, exercise, etc:

www.fitday.com

More of my story later. In the meantime, would be interested to know what folks are planning to do diet/exercise/etc. wise.

For me, i have almost completely eliminated refined sugar from my diet, and i strictly monitor any white flour. i also carefully control my portions and don't really snack much. i have to be careful though, because eating or not eating quickly becomes an obsession with me...so i have to be careful not to be too strict.

Wow, HottieMama! I read it early this morning but was tired so it didn't sink in - 80 pounds! That's really amazing. :rose: Neon

Thanks Neon! Doesn't feel so amazing...Other than the size of my jeans shrinking, i'm not really noticing a difference.

It is amazing isn't it! She's doing great and I think her thread will keep her on the path she wants to be on and let everyone who joins in support each other in doing what they want to do.

Hi all, I'm new here. I was checking out this thread and I think it's a wonderful idea. Congratulations on the weight loss HottieMama!
I can get a little obsessive compulisive also when it comes to what I put in my mouth... ;)
In all honesty I'm just trying to find and establish balance in all areas of my life.
I've had a baby within the past year and a half, and I'm not one of those people who is predisposed to being thin.
I actually had gestational diabetes; and although I don't have diabetes now, I'm at a higher risk for it. I'd like to get back on track.
If you'll have me, count me in.

Okay, so who's gonna be my "get healthy buddy" and come over every morning, prepare my menu for the day, search my work area for my candy/pretzels/animal crackers stash and take 'em away, and make me take my eight or so morning pills? (I think I'm going to eliminate one or two - I can really get by without them; doctor said so, but I'd be better off *with* 'em - but the side effects are annoying the hell out of me.) I can manage the night-time ones - by the time I'm ready for bed, I know the only way I'll have a *chance* at sleeping is if I take them.

Sir W..while i can't come over and rid your workspace of junkfood, i would be happy to send you a PM every night before i go to bed reminding you to take your medications. That way, you might find the Pm in the morning and just take them as you are reading it.

That's a wonderfully generous offer, though my inquiry was 99.44% pure jest (a side nod to Ivory soap ;) ). Thank you for your kindness and consideration. :rose:

Great thread, HM!

I gained weight after the death of my daughter and her sister being born with multiple physical birth defects...I was really depressed. I lately snapped out of it and saw a nutritionist for a lifestyle change meal plan, joined the gym and walk/jog a couple miles a day. I want to eventually run marathons and I am going to be purchasing a bike for endurance cycling.

I feel so much better. :)

Thanks. I was borderline too. They didn't catch it right away. My blood sugars were all over the place. I was pretty sick. I gained 50 pounds before they figured out what was up.

I ate mostly what was on the diet, except that I drank too much OJ and Milk. I was trying to get as many nutrients as possible. As soon as I cut back on those two things the weight gain stopped, but I haven't really lost anything.

I'm very sorry for your loss. :rose:

My sister has many physical birth defects as well. I don't know that experience from a mother's point of view, but I know the impact it can have on a family. If you ever just want to talk feel free to send me a pm.

Great goals! Good for you!
