I would really appreciate any help with this matter thanks in advance.

Some Details

iPod is only 4 months old 30GB color screen model
Had NO problems with it.
Did -not- set a security code to lock it.
Only time the padlock icon has shown in the past is when it is set to hold.
Last night when I went to listen to a podcast the padlock icon was flashing.
I ignored it , thought it was a 'glitch'.
Listened to most of the podcast it stopped short just before the end of the broadcast commentary ( approx 30 mins listening time )
Looked at the screen , the padlock icon was fixed and no longer flashing.
It's after midnight at that stage decide to concern myself with it in the AM.

What I have done to try and rectify so far..

Played around with buttons randomly ( laughs , well it's the truth )
Slid the hold button on & off & played around with buttons randomly ( yes I'm an idiot)
Logged into the only computer that is used with the iPod and done a full restore.

That did not release the locked padlock icon , it lights up at language selection screen ( from the restore ) though I am unable to direct it.
It shows a full charge.

Help please , I miss my iPod ...........cries

Try a reset

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Then depending on the ipod you have either

Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step

or

Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Here's a couple of other possibilities

problem with my iPod stuck in lock. It also wouldn't go off even when the cable was disconnected. let the battery run down and then replug in the cable. When it came on again, the lock was off.

or

tell Itunes to transfer MANUALLY. When it applied the changes, the padlock was gone.

Rthnck thank you so much for your assistance & time . I will be trying all of the above and will post again after doing so , hopefully happily with glowing results :rose:

gee, I thought all these wonderful Apple products never crashed or had bugs like a Microsoft product.

glad you got it all worked out tho. iPods are expensive paperweights when broken...and not really heavy enough to hold paper down...

Just call me gifted when it comes to messing up technology. I am however very brave and that often compensates.

Ohh and you can't download erotic images into paperweights.

Just saying :)

the gift that keeps on giving..............

Yipee I  this thread........

I just spent 2 hours at war with the freaking iPod again. This time the laptop was not recognising it and saying that the usb port had no drivers associated with the device.

In a moments weakness / brilliance I returned to this thread to put out the call for assistance and to check the link Midwestyankee had provided earlier.

However rthnck 's third suggestion in post # 2 of this thread resolved it all.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
