Where do you get your information?

Recent threads have made me curious about where people get their information, particularly their news and political information.

For me, I subscribe to the Alternet newsletter (which yes, I know, is very liberally slanted), and I have RSS feeds for Google News, Yahoo news, the Washington Post, the NY Times, my local paper and local newschannels, BBC World, as well as The Nation's top stories feed (which gets very little activity). I also subscribe to Newseek and occasionally watch Countdown with Keith Olbermann (my very favorite news commentator ever).

What about you? Where do you get your information?

The Times; Le Monde; Yahoo UK and US; local papers; Reuters.

I have no regular sources. I hear a lot of stuff from a lot of places throughout my life. I try to remember as best as I can, but I have a falty memory, and make sure to infer that I could very well have no idea what I am talking about, and not sound like a reliable source myself.

I have a one set of feeds I read first thing in the morning, and then that's it:

Local Newspaper
Local Weather
Comics
BBC (international news)
Local School Closings
Entertainment News
various technology "deal-of-the-day" pages

Then a set of news feeds I keep open all day and refer back to as needed

CNN
Digg
Slashdot
And what I call tools :
Bloglines
Personal Email
tv listings
a bookmark site
a photo site
a file storage site

Every day I sit down with MSNBC, the LA Times and CNN. I know they are liberal, but so am I.

I used to be an avid reader of the local newspaper until I noticed the header: The Oregonian - A Republican Conservative Newspaper. That explained a lot about the shit they reported.

MSNBC and CNN aren't liberal, and the LA Times has gone conservative since they were bought or got a new managing editor (not sure which).

As the Daily Show has pointed out, Reality has a liberal bias. ;)

NY Times, Wash. Post mostly. If a news item especially interests me then I see what other big city 'papers' are writing (LA, Chicago, Boston). BBC news (at least on BBC America) has been very disappointing for some time, getting too much like U.S. entertainment news. I wish I could subscribe to the London Times, but more often than not it's too much work keeping up with current events (or depressing).

My local paper and a personal forum I hang out at. (Not this one)

Seriously, I'm finding the news rather repetitive. I've heard it all before.

Yes, I'm reading a biography of Cicero, which includes information on Caesar, Pompei, Augustine, etc. and it all sounds so familiar. Actually, I find this ancient news more interesting. :)

I avoid TV news altogether... too depressing and negative... I check the headlines on yahoo daily... check the "odd news" sometimes :D

But honestly, I get most of my news from NPR... (waiting for Amicus to start his tirade... lol)

my sources

most days i see the washington post, and often the ny times. occasionally the LA times or London Times. the Toronto Globe and Mail is a solid conservative (pink) source (www.globeandmail.com).
the Toronto Star is one of the few liberal papers left in North America
www.thestar.com

a liberal blog with links to others, which i've been reading of late is
huffington post (www.huffingtonpost.com). she excerpts several other bloggers' work.

often i want to see what the right wing crazies are up to, so i consult those on zeb's list, as well as Pat Buchanan's site (one of the less crazy) or the National Review. for real entertainment, i look at southern baptist sites, concerned women for america, or focus on family.

Oprah, National Enquirer, the ABC evening news, Springer, emails that come in from strangers, Howard Stern, and I pick up a lot of historical facts from romance novels.

Doesn't everyone?

;)

I try to stay as blissfully clueless as I can. News seeps in, though -- usually through this forum or email forwarded to me.

So, how's that Anna Nicole thing going? ;)

Kinda running it into the ground, eh?

I actually just watch it so I can see Ann Coulter...I swear I'm gonna turn her out one day.

That's getting to be my preferred state of mind.

Fark.com.

Links pretty much to every major news story. I get all my info from the internet. A lot of it trickles down from AP and Reuters and gets posted everywhere.

It's called "rational ignorance." It's, er, rational.

(Pssst - you can find out everything you need to know by just reading my posts on the political threads.)

MSN. I love their catchy headlines like "Jordan Fingers Al Qaida In Iraq"

Otherwise, for local news, I talk to my grandpa, where I get crack reporting like this: "You know, them boys was drunk and they run right off in the crick."
