There are many such places. Every man, every woman carries in heart and mind the image of the ideal place, known or unknown, actual or visionary.....There's no limit to the human capacity for the homing sentiment. Theologians, sky pilots, astronauts have even felt the appeal of the home calling to them from up above, in the cold black outback of interstellar space.

For myself, I’ll take Aspen. Not the town itself, the countryside, the canyon lands and all its color and beauty. Aspen is best in the summer if you haven’t been.

Where is your "beautiful places on earth"?
 
I love the canyons in Sedona, Arizona. The green of the trees and the river against the red stone.

I love the view from Vogelsang Peak in Yosemite. So high you can hardly take pictures without overexposure...you have to hold the images in your heart. Granite polished by glaciers.

I love the ocean from La Jolla, San Diego and 15 Mile Drive near Carmel. There's one spot called "Restless Sea" where two ocean currents collide and the waves crash into each other at an angle.

I love the deep blue of Crater Lake in Oregon, an endless march of lodgepole pine to view on your drive in.
 
Poconos, Pennsylvania - where my Grandparents lived and recently died. Good people and I love the mountains.
 
I would have to say the Swiss Alps in the Summer.

Seeing the wild flowers in the valleys, the rushing streams and the snow capped mountains towering above was absolutely gorgeous.
 
The mountain north of my hometown ties directly with Sedona, Arizona for me. They're each beautiful for different reasons.
 
I'm particularly fond of my Great Lake and the surrounding beaches. I haven't been to very many places - but I can't see how they could be much better than this.
 
I have lived in Aspen, it is georgous country no doubt. I used to ride my bike for hours and hours around the valley. Great memorys.

My special place is Wengen Switzerland. It is a small village in the central alps. It sits nestled on a plateau at the top of a cliff, just below the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains. There are no cars, the only access is by cog train or helicopter. Wengen overlooks a long cliff encircled valley that has a large waterfall at it's end. On a clear day it is so beautiful that it seems unreal. My hearts home.
 
There are so many places. Aspen is beautiful; I could just sit by a sidewalk café and lounge for hours staring at the mountains. The Greek Islands have a special beauty. The blue waters of the Mediterranean just surround you and as I remember, they are in just about every view no matter where you go! Those white and blue houses dot the landscape....
 
I would like to live on top of a mountain, that way i would have no nieghbors and i could have all the privacy i want.

You can't see how they could be better because you haven't been to many places.

As you travel, you see all sorts of places that you couldn't possibly imagine.

There's a little spot on the north coast of Wales, overlooking the Mersey Estuary. I saw it once in January 1978 from the boat train, and thought maybe it was just the light or the clouds that particular day. Then I saw it again from the Motorway in July of 1985, and it was still gorgeous. But both times it was just passing through. Someday I'd like to spend some time there.
 
The rocky point above Laguna Beach is a good one, there's a pathway through a rose garden with the waves crashing against the rocks below.

I agree. But as long as I'm surrounded by water I'm happy.

I love water too. And even deciding on the most beautiful place is hard as hell for me. It's like deciding on your favorite food - it often depends on my mood.

One of the second most beautiful places I have ever seen was in far southern Chile where I saw the San Rafael Glacier with all the mini-icebergs of turquoise blue ice that had calved off of the glacier.

Then again New England in the fall with the myriad colors of the leaves is often breathtaking.

Or a sunset across the Caribbean with palm trees swaying in the late day breezes.

I could go on and on like this. ;)

I prefer the Austrian Alps in the winter. Simply beautiful. Although the Swiss Alps, around Murren, in December are pretty spectacular.

I haven't seen it at the peak, but soon thereafter. And it is quite amazing.

But so much in that region of the United States is quite beautiful.

I haven't seen the Austiran Alps. I drove through the French Alps in Summer and spent a week traveling the southern Swiss Alps from St. Moritz to Zermatt and it was far more beautiful than the French Alps.

During the peak it truly is unbelieveable. Anyone who hasn't seen it should put it on their list of things to do someday. And bring a camera! ;)
 
I'm a city person - New York City. I miss the energy and excitement, the different neighborhoods, the small restaurants, the concerts.

That's the reason I live in NYC, but I don't think even I (a diehard New Yorker) would call it beautiful. :D
 
I would not know. I've never been anywhere other than Ontario, Vermont and New Hampshire.
