Brenda was amazed by the opulence of the resteraunt Mac was escorting her threw. It had to be the most amazing place she had ever seen. The paintings on the walls looked like they belonged in museums, not a dining room.
She had been in this position many times before and knew that she wouldn't speak until spoken to. She would be polite and responsive, the perfect hostess, since it seemed that Mac was the host of this gathering.
She stood quietly by his side as each of his associates came forward to greet him. She was quite stunned by the show of respect each man showed him, as well as the respect that was being given to her.
She couldn't help but notice how each of them looked at her. The looks were that of a man appreciating a fine piece of art. With a glance towards Mac as Paulie bent to kiss her hand, she couldn't help but notice how pleased Mac was. The smile on his face said more than words.
It was then that she noticed a slight movement on the bottom of her wrist as the softest lips touched her hand. Glancing down , she noticed the smokest eyes staring at her as the finger on her wrist lightly grazed it.
"The pleasure is certainly mine, Brenda." His smoldering voice whispered as he rose to take his seat, his eyes never leaving hers.
Cecila, the woman she was introduced to made her feel comfortable, and welcomed. She couldn't hep but notice how beautiful she was and how much Mac seemed to appreciate her.
She took her seat to the right of Mac and couldn't help but notice that with the size of the table, that everyone was able to talk to everyone else without much effort.
Slowly sipping her wine, she listened closely to the conversations around her, trying to gage why she was here. Every so often, she could feel Mac lean closer to here, reminding her she needed to eat, knowing she was nervous. She would smile demurly at him and then take a few bites of her food.
What Mac wasn't aware of, she thought, was the attraction she was feeling for the man sitting directly across from her. Each time she raised her glass to her lips, she would notice those eyes on her again. It wasn't that he was staring at her, but he was watching her. He seemed to watch every breath she took and every move she made.
She couldn't help but stare at Mac as he made his announcement and left the room. It was like a pack of vultures desending on it's prey. Everyone seemed to be talking to her at once, demanding her attention. Yet, it seemed to be Giovannni, that took control of the time that they were to have with her. His smooth, sultry voice calming everyone.
He told them that they needed to speak one at a time to her, that would be the only way that Brenda could get a full understanding of each of their businessses.
Giovanni was the first to speak, explaining the he was in the import and export buisness; that he was always looking for people to travel and find those rare and unique things that could be sold in the states. He told her enough about his business to arouse the intellectual part of her.
Yet, for some reason, she sensed a more sexual nature to the others businesses. Maybe it was the way Paulie and Marco both ogled over her, complementing her body and face. Brenda had never been very comfortable with that kind of compliment.
She smiled sweetly at them and thanked them for such wonderful comments. But as soon as Mac came back to the room, all conversations stopped.
The others returned to their seats as Mac made his way back to the head of the table.
"So ... Brenda? You've had some time to find out about each of my associate's businesses. Which one do you think you'd feel most comfortable working in? It appears as if each of them clearly has an opening immediately available for you."
Her gaze made its way around the table, hesitating slightly on Giovanni's. She couldn't help but notice the slight grin on his face as he raised his glass to his lips, taking a long pull from his glass of burbon.
" I......I am thinking that my talents might best be suited for the import/export business. I am not very comfortable with being made a public figure and well, I am not very good at networking. I think that Giovanni might be the best course for me , Mac.
It was the most she had spoken all evening at one time. She was uncomfortable being put on the spot like that, but she knew Mac woukld want her answer right then and there. There would be no thinking it over.
Slowly, she lowered her eyes to her glass, raised it to her lips and took a sip of the sweet wine, waiting for Mac's and everyone else's reaction at the table.
