As the Apollo Belvedere shows, amongst many other examples, in the Classical world it was the male form which was far more objectified. I think Mariology had an early and important part to play in the development of a focus on the female form, as did the development of courtly love by the troubadours.

But surely it would be fair to say that, in spite of billboard sized posters of David Beckham et al, women are now more commonly objectified? Only an ideological idiot would say men are never objectified, but women do face it more, and usually more aggressively in my experience.

Proof of objectification?! The fact movie & TV ratings increase if you show a little of a man's chest, dick, or most other parts of his anatomy... But female nudity doesn't happen enough to make a judgment.
