it's a Kindle Paperwhite, which is only for reading in black and white. Amazon's Kindle Fire device is their version of a pad, with a color screen for consuming all kinds of content: movies, music, books. I also have an iPad, but I far prefer the Kindle for reading. It's much lighter weight, plus the screen has no glare issues even in full sun, and battery life is much better.
