You can't drive in Russia

Us lot are banned from having a driving licence in Russia - not that anyone bothers with a licence over there I'd guess, provided you've got the cash to pay off the police.

True, but I think there's a difference between introducing a new ban and not changing a law that has it roots in some old religious tradition. One is a backward step, the other never got off base in the first place, but both are expressions of patriarchal or homophobic bullshit

Barring people with 'mental disorders' (including being trans [and probably any LGBT], a fetishist, exhibitionist, voyeur, 'pathological' gambler or kleptomaniac) from driving is absurd. Obviously this has nothing whatsoever to do with public safety and is clearly intended to limit the rights and privileges of people whose 'morals' differ from those that are approved by the state.
