Hello, and welcome to the 11th Annual Literotica Reader's Choice Awards. Please use this thread to discuss the nominees and the contest itself. Please do not post your opinions on the voting threads themselves. Thanks, and Happy Voting!

Sorry for being a prick. Hope what I posted earlier was not too rude.

And thanx laurel for taking time out of your busy schedule to get this up so we can vote on what stories we loved.

No, no - thank YOU and all the readers who take the time to vote! Big thanks also to the authors, without whose wonderful stories this wouldn't be possible. :rose:

Hello Laurel

First of all I am very surprised to see a story by me on this short list, Pleased but surprised.

Thank you for at least putting my name foward. I certainly wouldn't have done so.

Wherever you are RedE, I want you and everyone else to know that it's my sincere belief that if your story Lovers Without Realizing It hadn't been nominated for most Literary-Genre Transcending and you'd been competing down in Best Lesbian Story with the rest of us mere mortals, you'd have squished us soundly.

Lovers Without Realizing It was an inspiration for me and it will always be one of my favorites. In my head, it's already got a nifty blue 'W' next to it.

I could not resist but seconding what you said. The story is unique, teaching me much about writing. It remains among my favorites of all time.

Give it a read folks, amazing story.

RedE, no matter what awards you win or do not win, that story rocked...and Paco, you ain't exactly chicken feed either.

Why don't you put the voting choices as stickies? As it is, they disappear every time I go to look at them.

Does anyone know why the voting is closed on the Romance stories? It closed on 9/17 but it's supposed to be open until 11/2.

Probably a finger slip when setting up the poll. Might want to pop off a PM to Laurel so she can get it fixed.

If we stickied all 40+ voting threads, that would defeat the purpose of a sticky. Instead, the main thread with links to all of the threads is stickied for easy reference. If you're working your way through the choices on a particular category thread, you may want to bookmark that thread in your browser for easy reference, then delete the bookmark when you've finished. :rose: Hope this helps!

I posted this last year on May 1st - it was the first day last years discussion thread was up.

Clearly dear LAUREL :cattail: misunderstood my suggestion - Instead of moving up the dates of the nomination process and the voting she moved it backwards by 4+ months. Which means we're now voting on stories (and for authors) that were published here 10 to 22 months ago. Given the ages of many of our AH regulars I'm afraid many of the awards will have to be given posthumously!

I've decided not to repeat my request this year - heck, if I do and we move another four months back again we won't be voting on the 2010 awards until sometime in 2012...

from post #2 on last years discussion thread:

While too late for this years (or more accurately last years) awards I do feel that I must point out that the nomination process and the actual voting are being held far too long after the period we’re voting on. This is especially critical in awards such as MOST INFLUENTIAL WRITER, POET, EDITOR etc.

No one votes for sporting MVP awards or the like mid way through the next season. For obvious reasons. For one thing many readers (probably most) will base their voting on what’s happened during the last four months and not on what happened in 2008....

My suggestion dear QUEEN :cattail: is that nominations in future years be asked for and accepted in the first two weeks of the new year and voting immediately commence on January 15th and last for 30 days.

I’m james r scouries and I’d like to see some changes…

Group Sex category closed?

I went to the group sex category, and it said that the polls were closed. I hope that something gets fixed.

Scripting

I think the "Other Language" category should include stories in other languages but using ROMAN script.

THere are are many good stories in other languages that are being weeded out simply because they have been written phonetically in ROMAN script. In fact, using other scripts reduces the reader base, but using the Roman script keeps the reader base intact, and enlarges possibility of knowing other customs, practices, sexual mores.

Consider this seriously.

I made it a point this year not to get involved in the 1th Annual Literotica Awards – when I did last year I was accused of every crime possible. So I pointed out in my one post made over a month ago on the lack of timeliness of this whole exercise and then I sat back and shut up.

I decided to let the discussion of the contest and the merits of the various nominees to everyone else. Without the trouble maker scouries around I guessed there would be a flowering of insightful and interesting posts (NOT!).

That with all these contest categories, with all the nominated authors, with all the interested LITEROTICANS around we’d see this site at its finest.

But surprise, surprise just the opposite has happened. Here’s the figures for this thread:

11th Annual Literotica Reader's Choice Awards

In over a month only 17 replies (and a good number were made by LAUREL) And do you know what? Even with the millions of people who’ve visited the site since the voting started not one reader has discussed the merits of any of the nominated stories. No one has commented on any aspect of the contest.

With scouries around last year here are the comparative figures:

It’s sad really. What should be LITEROTICA’S finest hour has fallen to these depths. It doesn’t have to be this way – change is possible.

I’m only going to make one more post on this contest – I’ll rate the various candidates for MOST INFLUENTIAL AUTHOR in the next couple of days and that will be it. And only because I believe some points I’m going to be able to make will highlight many of the problems that have to be fixed.

Scouries on the 11th ANNUAL LITEROTICA AWARDS – Most Influential Author

Here’s the first things that jumped out at me when I saw this year’s nominees:

1) This year we have 10 nominees while in previous years we had 4 or 5. I wondered why.

2) The total number of votes cast has tumbled dramatically – a 60% falloff in spite of having double the nominees.

3) There were NO top twenty FAVORITE AUTHORS nominated.

and finally

4) I had never even heard of half the nominees!

WTF I asked myself. Soular must have paid somebody off to get this weak and large a field.

In the 10th ANNUAL AWARDS we had some of the giants competing – BFW, the kitten sisters and Many Feathers stand out. This year we don’t have any of the top 20 MOST FAVORITE authors. Anyway I investigated all the nominees and here’s what I found (those with stars next to their names were previously unknown to me):

Charles Petersunn* This guys written a great number of stories in a lot of different categories. And most of them have H’s. I’m surprised I haven’t run into him before. He looks like a pretty good author.

Firebrain* She’s a hot looking babe about 30 who comes from Sunny England? She only joined the site in May 2009 so she certainly wasn’t the most influential for the first 5 months of the year! As far as I can see she only submitted one story in 2009, a chaptered Novel called Chairman of the Whored and which wasn’t finished until 2010. It’s hard to understand how she could have possibly have been nominated in this category.

HRKW* A self proclaimed “skinny female” whose picture depicts her as a sexy blond. Heather doesn’t say where she comes from but she could be Canadian. She joined the site in March 2009 but she appears to have taken down whatever stories she once had up on LITEROTICA. She still has some poems up. Pretty hard to vote for someone who doesn’t have any stories left… Why even nominate her?

mia erotica My old pal Mia also describes herself as “skinny” and says she’s in her thirties and lives in New York (the city?). She also joined in March 2009. She has 5 stories dated 2009 still up – in 4 different categories. Her scores are quite low but I can tell you her work is better than these low scores would indicate – in my humble opinion anyway. Unfortunately this talented young maiden spends most of her time around here chasing the infamous cheat jayman. Which makes her a poor choice as a MOST INFLUENTIAL role model for the younger LITEROTICA set.

oggbashan THREADMASTER. Old. ENGLISH. If we were here to award a lifetime achievement award the oggman would probably be leading the pack. But we’re not! Most of his best work came out in the 2003-6 period. His 2009 work was minimal and hardly trendsetting. Even his threads have fallen on hard times. We need a much more modern voice in this category.

Positivethinker SURVIVALIST – hundreds of stories submitted. A good looking and intelligent 45 year old redhead. This girl is brilliant if her choices as FAVORITE AUTHOR are anything to go by. She was by far the best of this sorry lot in 2009.

Princess Erin SURVIVALIST – hundreds of stories submitted. CANADIAN. About 30 years old. She lives in a castle. She has a very weak group of FAVORITE AUTHORS. Is known for writing very short stories. By and large she’s not that bad. But MOST INFLUENTIAL? I think not.

Soular Another female and a famous manipulator of the nomination and voting process here on LITEROTICA. In 2009 she started the multi chaptered story Gabriella which is still not finished. She also wrote the last few chapters of a 2008 story. But that’s it. She writes in the Interracial category and the three stories she’s submitted to the site are remarkably alike. She could easily be named BEST CAMPAIGN MANAGER but unfortunately her influence is marginal at best.

Talyis Bagley* Another ENGLISH babe – this one about 30. She also joined in May 2009. She’s a swordswoman if her picture is any indication. She wrote 2 multi chaptered stories in 2009 – one a Sci-Fi effort, the other a Non-Human one. Neither were particularly highly rated given the categories they’re in. I have no idea what she’s doing in this category.

Transverse* Another babe who joined the site in 2009 – this one apparently from California. She seems to concentrate on Gay Male stories. Which is weird. Like Talyis above she certainly doesn’t belong even in this so-so company.

So who to vote for? One of the six babes who joined in 2009? Could they be by any chance clones (read ALTS) of Soular? Could her pals have nominated them to keep the greats out? I wonder.

Frankly this group is just an advertisement for everything that is wrong with the annual awards.

racist

you gave all the white people good comments and dissed the black girl, but its okay cause solar is going to win white boy!

Scouries, never change.

(Although I must admit to not understanding all the Soular hype. Of course, I haven't been able to make it past the first chapter of any of her stories, so I may not be the best judge.)

Surprised! But happily so!

Although I've been a Literotica author since 8/2007, I never thought I'd ever win anything for any of my stories. It's never been about winning, anyway. It's always been about my love of writing.

Much to my surprise, however, last month as I was cruising my Submissions page, I saw this little blue "W" beside chapter 6 to my NonHuman, Cursed and Coveted story. I was astounded, not really knowing what this meant.

It took some searching, but I finally discovered that this chapter had won 2nd Prize! Wow. I am truly amazed. It even inspired me to write the final chapter to this story. I'm sure my readers would be happy to know this.

I also discovered that the fourth chapter to my Incest story, Loving Siblings: Liam & Liliana, is currently nominated for the 11th Annual Literotica Reader's Choice Award for Best Incest Story. I couldn't be happier! I just wished I'd known about this sooner. I could have mentioned it to my readers. :-D

Thank you for even considering me.

Warmest,
~ Candlelight062

**First of all:**

Thank you all who have nominated me and who are voting for me. I am very honored to be apart of this list of writers- (many of you on this list, I have enjoyed your stories as well).

PrincessErin- I have enjoyed your writing for many years and would say you are influential.

To Scouries: Have you even read my stories or my reader comments? Or are you just going by little red "H's". You only mention the two novels I have written but failed to see that I have written in other genres as well.

I would think that the way my readers have received my stories, by being moved to tears, or have hated to loved my characters has something to do with being able to write influential pieces. Not always are these stories going to receive little H's, especially if you are willing to go beyond the simple stroke story or the happy ending. I (as well as Transverse) write stories where the main characters are black females but my stories transcend interracial themes as well as the genres I categorize my stories in (you only get to pick one on Literotica).

Based on your limited knowledge and biased comments, the "change" you profess is needed is to have the Literotica Awards be more of a popularity contest.
