They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues
Years ago, I sat in front of my monitor with the registration for lit sitting in front of me. I guess it was 13 years ago exactly. Almost. Within reason.
I was about to turn 30.
Sure, I could have gone with 5inches69 or workoutguy24 or whatever.
I went to a place I often go. I went to music.
I was listening heavily to an album by dUg Pinnick (Poundhound) called Massive Grooves. It truly represented my music tastes at the time. Heavy, drop D tuning. Riffs.
I had this album on continuous cycle.
Pinnick is in his 60s now and continues to put out great music. His 2013 solo album Naked is quite good. He has put out six albums the last two years. I still listen.
Around the time of my registration, I picked up an album it would take me a few years to get into. I was a big Kyuss fan, so Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age was a must have for me. Still drop D tuning, for the most part, but it had some great moments.
In the Fade is one of my top played songs today. May be a Lanegan gem for the ages.
Enough about that song for now. Back to the title song.
This is the day
Of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday
I gazed through the glass
At ramblers
Wild gamblers
That's all in the past
All so true. Don't know how much I'll show. With all the expanding and stuff, I definitely look better dressed.
I have a couple weeks until my birthday. I'm not MG anymore. He died in a hard drive fire. All smoke and fumes. Was really quite sad.
Yet, I feel like sharing. I feel like having a little party before my next birthday. This time of year does it to me.
And a placeholder for the future if I get the itch.
Be good.
