Prefect Audin walked through the catacombs of citadel Paris, two silver stars on each collar, a green uniform and red cape to show his superior authority. He was followed by one of his captains until they reached two soldiers who stood to attention on either side of a cell door. One of the soldiers pressed a button for the cell door to slide open, allowing the officers inside. There was a naked young woman kneeling and dirty with her wrists strapped behind her by a tight leather strap. There was also a tight leather strap around her neck, the tightness controlled by a fat eunuch wearing only uniform trousers. The force used eunuchs because they had no preference for sex and they did not mind applying torture when commanded. The woman looked downwards. The prefect grinned and put his knee length boot on her head to lift it. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. “Why did you take me from my husband? He is a soldier. If he finds out I’m here he will...”
“He will what? As far as he knows you are missing.” The prefect replied. “You stink, too long with the other prisoners in that cell.” He knelt before her, taking her chin in his hands. “You know what I need to know. If you want freedom, give me the answers.” He stared into her blue eyes. “Well, who or what is Chyrops?” She remained silent and he gave a nod to the eunuch to tighten the collar which hurt and made her choke, then he released. “I hate it when my prisoners don’t co-operate. I show no fucking mercy. You are pregnant to your husband. Think of your unborn child.”
“You will never let me see my husband again even if I give you information. What option do I have? A mother and her child thousands of kilometres away from her husband fighting your war.”
“Tell me who or what is Chyrops?”
“I can’t. It is a secret.” She replied. The prefect let go of her chin and looked down at her. Yet another no hope for information. Once again he thought about this secret that was becoming deadly in his hands. He looked at the eunuch running his fingers through the young woman’s hair with unintentional tenderness.
“Have her flayed until she is dead.” The prefect gave his orders as always with all of his victims. The young woman cried hysterically for mercy as the prefect and captain left the cell. The two officers made their way through the catacombs to an escalator that took them to a balcony atop of the fortress. Prefect Audin turned to his captain. “What do you see Mearin?” He asked his junior ranking officer. Mearin looked out at part of the Paris citadel with part of the Eiffel tower missing in view, destroyed by a Mech many years ago.
“I see our citadel sir.” Mearin replied.
“And what have you noticed over the past four years that has become significant?”
“The Mecha have not attacked.”
“There are twelve of them to every one of our force units. Man and weapons. We can now destroy their cities and slow them down from producing themselves.” He smiled at his subordinate. “Do you know why Mearin?”
“No sir.”
“Neither do I. But I know one thing for sure, Chyrops is behind it all, whatever the fucker is.”
The Paris citadel general Lincal put his best prefect Audin to work on the mystery of the Chyrops. Several free females began to talk of such a thing promising a ‘brand new world’. Some females had reported to have joined the free settlers and clans which the force were not interested in until now. The settlers and members were free and if soldiers killed them thinking they were Mecha slaves then it was an accident. The same kind of accident Zaff was going to make against Sila. Audin had an idea that Chyrops was influenced or vice versa by females. He had killed almost ten women for holding back information. He was a cruel inhumane man, like most prefects in the force. His intellectual mind set on finding answers using barbaric methodology.
Prefect Audin sat at his office desk, Captain Mearin at another desk across the room checking data on his computer. There was a beep and a message appeared on Audin’s screen. It was unbelievable news of the Mecha releasing their slaves at a city just a hundred or so kilometres away. It was estimated that about six thousand people, men women and children were thrown out of the city without nomadic status with the drones ahead of them to kill off troops and free humans. Something was happening, and the general wanted to know. So did Audin himself.
Four hundred troops and carriers with twenty missile carriers and both Audin and Mearin were ready to go and investigate. Audin made no provision for the freed slaves. They had to fend for themselves and become settlers and eventually free slaves, but it was another chance to bombard the Mecha city that wiped out six hundred troops in his attacking forces more than four years ago.
“Get me that information prefect.” The general ordered in his huge office. “You know what I need to know. Even amongst the freed slaves there maybe someone who can tell us about Chyrops.”
Audin saluted, right arm held out. “Sir, I will find this thing even if it kills me.”
“Be careful Audin what you wish for.”
Within half a day before the summer nightfall Audin reached the Mecha city. He stood in the rear of his roofless jeep and ordered it to stop, the troops and missile carriers behind him. Slaves were still fleeing the city and there were no deadly drones, even though the city could outnumber the troops from drone attack alone. Audin gave orders for a full missile assault on the city. Each carrier armed with twelve missiles. The destruction of the Mecha city began without any defensive fire. “What is wrong with you bastards?” Audin shouted. “Show me some force you Mecha trash!”
Lancas and Zaff returned to their tent with their quota of boar. It tasted good. The best boar Lancas had tasted in years, although Zaff did not like the meat that much. “You know my lad, this is good stuff.” Lancas began to explain something further that bothered him. “I checked the boar out before they skinned it and started spit roasting it, and do you know what I found?” Zaff shuck his head waiting for another surprise revelation from his comrade commander. “There were no flesh wounds, meaning that it wasn’t hunted.”
Suddenly Zaff’s young ears picked up the sounds of distant explosions. He stood up. “The Mecha or the force.”
“Or both.” Lancas replied unperturbed. “We are with this clan, plenty of food and plenty of women to fuck. It isn’t my war... for now.”
“No, we should go and rejoin the force; it is our duty by oath.”
“Fuck the oath! I don’t bow down to any of those generals and their prefects unless it suits me. Look at yourself Zaff since being here, you have become a man, even if your orgasm only lasted a few seconds and you had a beautiful girl at your disposal, even though I had to finish her off. I gave her an amazing orgasm she’ll never forget. Oh come on lad, grow the fuck up will you.”
“The force saved my life.” Zaff said, still edging to find the battle still raging in the distance. “How far do you think they are?”
“I was never any good at judging distance by the sounds of battle. I’ll guess twenty maybe thirty kilometres west.”
“No, the sound of battle is north.”
“Go west, it’s safer. You’ll miss all of the fun.”
Prefect Audin had sixteen fleeing slaves captured and tied in a bunch with a loop of thick leather strapping, six troops holding them. “It’s no good sir.” One of the troops said. “They speak some crazy foreign language.” Audin listened to their cries to be released and realised it was the language that the Mecha used to communicate with them. Mearin was close by and he commanded that he find an interpreter. There were always other captains fluent in Mecha. He looked at the captives, all naked and out of their aluminium cladding to stop the drones from accidentally picking up body heat that resembled a human. The force troops used vests under their uniforms to protect them, but they did not always work.
Audin wanted a ‘fair fight’ against the city, but now the city was ablaze from the number of missile attacks. Another city stunted in its expansion. A captain ran forwards to Audin and saluted. “Corbain sir, I have studied the Mech slave language.” Audin looked at him, a weak looking officer unlike Mearin, who was at least well trained and hardened to his ways. Audin moved towards the captives and his first choice was inevitably a woman in her middle age. He ordered captain Corbain to come by his side with a wave of his hand. “Sir?”
“Ask this fucking bitch who is Chyrops.” The captain did as Audin requested and the woman spoke.
“She doesn’t know, sir, never heard of them.”
Audin found a man and then a younger woman and the same replies came back to him. He looked up to the starlit sky, only lit by the full moon and there were floodlights from the carriers. Then he looked down to the ground ordering his soldiers to release the group of sixteen. He quickly turned around and opened fire with his laser gun. Each one of the captives dropping to the ground fatally wounded. “Useless bastards.” He uttered.
Lancas sat on a log in the woods slicing a fresh apple and looking up through the branches at the huge full moon. It was one of those moons that come closer to ‘the world’ in its orbit making the darkness almost diminish. Zaff joined him. “There is a strange feeling in the air. It makes me shiver, but it isn’t cold.”
“I know. I feel it too Zaff. It’s like something is wrong, going to happen and you don’t know what. Does that make sense?”
“Maybe.” Zaff replied, picking an apple from a branch. “This wood, why so many apples?”
“A long time ago it was probably an orchard. Long before I was even born on the other side of the Atlantis Ocean. Seems that this fucking war as outlived all of mankind twice maybe three times over. Some idiot built or wrote a program and...”
“A human caused all of this?” Zaff asked, now finding his comrade a strange mind of information.
“If you want to call the idiot a human, yes.” Lancas replied with a laugh and gripping Zaff’s shoulder in a jovial jesture.
“What about the woman I nearly killed, the one with the horse. Who is she?”
“Silas. What a beautiful mysterious woman she is. I’m not sure whether or not to fuck her brains out or interrogate her, perhaps both. She knows things and I want to know those things myself. I’m going stir crazy thinking about her and what she is all about. Maybe Chyrops knows.”
“Chy-rop? Who is that?” Zaff asked struggling with pronunciation.
“I wish I knew.” Lancas smiled and ate his apple.
Audin set up camp, a long green canvas tent with a makeshift desk out of full ammunition chests. He set up the computer and looked at the map of the area up to fifty kilometres. He could see an open valley with trees between the slopes of part of the Alps. The map told him that it was the Nerras orchard dating back before updated records. However, updates shown that the Mecha were not interested in expanding there because the drones and nomad slaves had not strayed there. It was a valley that was rated too enclosed for building a city. Audin sat back in his seat and studied the map further.
“We have tracked down more slaves’ sir, and killed all of them.” Mearin reported.
“Good good. They are a waste of time. They all died eventually under the Mecha. Not only slaves but a source of food. The meat they ate was their own human meat.”
“Cannibalism?” Mearin was shocked. It was something the prefects rarely revealed to those ranked below them in case it incited mercy for the Mecha slaves.
“Of course. What other source of meat was there?” Audin pointed out the Nerras valley on the map to Mearin. "We pay a visit here I think. Just the troops. Send the missile carriers back to Paris; they have done their job for now. I have a feeling that what I am trying to find is there. Continue killing the slaves as we move on."
“And any free settlers and clans, sir?”
“Kill the settlers. Leave the clans to me. I think things might be more organised and precise.”
The daylight soon arrived and the missile carriers made a prompt return to Paris. Audin led his four hundred troops south-easterly towards the Alpine region and the Nerras valley. He wore his chrome plated prefects helmet for safety. He knew that there would be renegade soldiers in the area who would do anything to snipper him. The helmet was made of titanium and rubber and the most a head shot would give him was a pain in the neck. As for the rest of his body, he did not seem to care. “I need to think, even when I’m dying.” He said, jovially. Mearin was learning about the ways of his commander very quickly.
“I can hear vehicles.” Zaff said, already awake in the tent of yet another virgin he had been with overnight. Outside the clan were scrambling, packing carts and moving as fast as possible. He took the girls hand and ran with her to the tent where Lancas was. “Who are they? The force.”
“Yes. And I’m not ready to join up yet. Something warned the clan. They are moving to safety wherever they can.” Lancas replied. “Time for us to move lad, grab your kit, rifle and ammo. Let the girl go with her people.”
“She wants to come with me.” Zaff replied.
“On your fucking head be it lad.”

Question; Would you like to meet prefect Audin in real life?![]()
Depends on the circumstances. If I had the upper hand, ok.
It seems that the Mecha, the monsters have stopped and there is a new regime of hardened human leaders. A twist in the taleAs we discussed before heroes are reluctantly made, called out the mud of common hardship we all suffer. Some simply rise higher out of the mire, nonetheless when a hero hears a call, let the monsters, or in this case, the machines beware.
I enjoy you.

Agreed, my love!
From Sunday until Wednesday I have been on my own, because TRT and our girls went to visit TRT's parents in Tyneside. I had a visit from a neighbourWhen I apply each to you, it is rather unique.

we have gotten to know since moving from Ibiza to Devon. She isn't much older than myself and wanted to look at the palms of my hands. I let her look
and she studied them closely. "I keep getting this overwhelming feeling of war." She said, "So far in every persons hands I have looked at, including yours."
That could be common knowledge because of the news and Syria. Then she studied my palms further and said; "You are writing a story about war."
I was astounded. My recent story on Lit. She couldn't be a member. I just told her that I was too busy to write and we continued to have coffee and talk
about the standards of higher education in the UK. I will confess, the incident did give me the creeps...

That's pretty spooky, my love... I wonder if she actually might be a surreptitious member of Lit, and popped round out of pure curiousity?
InterestingShe just wanted to hold your hands. That is pretty creepy though
