Finding your inner conservative.

'I am a conservative in everything except politics', my father used to say, and the same is true of me. I think my dangerous proclivities are well known hereabouts - tea, furniture, architecture, books, music, good manners, etc. But what of yours? Whether liberal or conservative, anarchist or fascist, in your political views, what about in life generally?

Share, if you would be so good, those things you still prefer the old-fashioned way. You too, Candi! There must be something...

I prefer old tools, but I am no luddite so I have powertools from the 1950s. I prefer home-made bread and prefer to knead it by hand, but my new mixer (with classic lines) might persuade me from that. I prefer cars before 1972, and I would not mind at all if fashion returned to the early sixties.

I like old fashioned manners, chivalry, movies, and we'll built homes. Plus letters. I really miss writing and exchanging letters through the mail.

I miss natural scents and foods. I cant recall the last time I smelled wood smoke but disinfectant is everywhere. I mean, how much better is Lysol for your lungs?

Clothing. I like well made clothes and shoes. Most of my shoes are either handcrafted in America or Italy. I will not buy cheap shoes, heavens no!!!

When I smell Febreeze in the air, I start wondering about actual cleanliness. The first time I threw a couple of my roommate's white towels in with my whites to make-up a full load, he wrinkles his nose and says "whats that smell?" having evidently never added bleach to his wash in 29 years on the planet. He now does with whites once he decided the unfamiliar was not unpleasant.

I had an inner conservative once, but I broke up with him in the end.

Come over for tea sometime - our house always smells of woodsmoke and, at least when I'm at home, very rarely disinfectant. We'll discuss le Carre and avoid race, and it will be lovely. :)

Clothes dried in the sunshine is another wonderful scent. Its rare, too.

I do not know the right name for the job I have in mind for you, but some sort of public house/tavern owner probably back a century or so. I imagine you could have a relatively lovely time engaging just about anyone. Except Hitler. I don't think he was much of a conversationalist.

I also have this wool-gathering image of an antiquarian book dealer that people stopped in for the conversation as much as the books. I think I read such a character recently but can't recall where.

All conservatism is, is respect for what works best. Liberals remind me of the lost souls in Dantes Hell who chase phantoms for eternity.

The closest thing to a happy liberal is a drunk.

so you don't work and collect welfare, got it

Do you not find it hard to retain them, though, in your neck of the woods? Do they not hanker for the bright lights?

why is it that your kind never wants to fix the problem? you slaves, want to increase taxes and toss money at the problem. One has to assume that you are a crack junkie like SeanH?

you and your kind need to grow up, start a business or do something. get off your ass and find a job

remember, welfare is not a career choice

Are you an actual person Jen, or are you an auto-response bot? Because you are failing the Turing test, badly.

I'ma rock this thread.

I lol'd :) Nicely done--^

I don't really want to write this post, cause there's too many I letters, but whatever, there's chicks here (maybe) and I can't resist the postulation:

But what of yours?
Cars, women, music, movies, information, technology, manual labor/hard work, you know, the usual, but as for being 'conservative' as per the dictionary, mostly only the opposite, except I stopped speeding and awhile back, and I stopped thinking about hitting on every woman I should (not really, but really).

Whether liberal or conservative, anarchist or fascist, in your political views, what about in life generally?

I tend to detach my personal feelings from real life human interaction, for the most part, except for reason, defense, or romance

I also have a thing: The Constitution of the United States of America or GTFO. I really do believe in the document. (chuse... Anyone, anyone?)
I don't choose partisan or a single party, I choose Citizens.

I don't tolerate abuse or corruption in any form, I'm that guy that says something to everyone I see (which isn't many persons) or directly to the culprits (even to my own detriment).

I do as much as possible to avoid violence, but I don't mind having some teeth knocked out for a matter of principle.

I don't like to argue (I much prefer Academic Conversation).

I believe there are things greater than myself in this world and that: "Those things which are precious are saved only by sacrifice."

I'm a big fan of personal Liberty and individual rights and fiscal responsibility.

"Love your country, but never trust its government."
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Contrary to popular belief, I'm generally soft spoken and patient (even in my writing), know about all kinds of useless (and not so) stuff, and just might do anything you ask me - within reason.

Share, if you would be so good, those things you still prefer the old-fashioned way.
Apparently, since I'm totally straight, I'm old-fashioned. I'm a one woman type of guy. Sex and romance as well: Slow and steady wins the race, but I don't mind some acceleration.

I also like to do things myself, as in DIY. I don't like to pay or ask someone to fix my car or my sink or paint. In point of fact, I really don't like asking anyone for anything unless I have to. I've been know to disassemble appliances to make them work for a bit longer.

I tend to collect things en masse for a while until I run out of storage space for it (like albums or car parts or tapes or older computers) and then I sort through it for something to do.

...will that do?

which would be scathing if 1, you were anywhere near the truth or, 2, you didn't live with your mom and rub your bare arse all over her countertops when she was out.

Ouchy. What about those that paid into the system? Temporary (short term) assistance? What about genuine disabilities?

"Windmills do not work that way."

Your problem is obviously with unsustainable government programs.

I still hand-write letters to my grandparents. I tried using carrier pigeons for a while, but the postal service has gotten more safely across the Atlantic than those damn traitors.

if someone is disabled, then we support them. if we get Rob, UD, Merc, SeanH, Izzy, TheThrob, SeanR kind off welfare (because these kinds of people chose not to work) then there will be more money to help those in need.

I have a lot of problem with 'government' as they have created salves since the kennedy days. we need to 86 welfare and free housing. 86 the obama iphone program as its 30-40% fraud. end obama care

welfare and socialism are mental illnesses

please, all I hear from the obama slaves are 'we need more money'

you do know that England isn't in America, don't you? I mean... it wouldn't really shock anyone if you didn't, but you really ought to by your age.

England, France ... total shit holes with massive islamic issues and unemployment

being an obama slave is a global problem with your kind

I do not own a smartphone. I do not feel the need to be connected to the internet when I'm not at home. My very basic cell phone does not have a camera. I leave my phone off most of the time to conserve battery power. I use it mainly for outgoing calls, so I rarely give out the number. With the exception of e-mail, I've never sent a text message in my life.

I've heard of hashtags, but I've never used one and don't know the protocol for doing so.

I'm not a member of Facebook or Twitter nor do I ever intend to join either.

I pay bills by writing checks, and eschew periodic electronic withdrawals for most business transactions.
