In real life, my circle of friends is like a the United Nations. I'm so happy to be close to people of different races and from so many different cultures. My friend Moana, (the one I spoke of in the IB thread), has taught me heaps about Maori heritage, the kind of details and nuances a guide book or textbook would never provide. My friends enrich my life and I hope I do the same for them. It would take much more than one angry stranger to undermine my love for my friends or my faith in their love for me.

Racism comes from fear and it's an innate human quality. There was a time, long, long ago, when fearing people who didn't look like you made very good sense, in terms of survival. Heck, the people of this island used to paddle over to one of the neighbouring islands for lunch..."lunch" being the tribes on the other island. And we're all big discriminators, in a general sense. If everyone on the planet was the same colour, we'd find other ways to hate and discriminate; that's humans for you.

I honestly can't say how many racial/interracial friends I have - I don't count, and don't really care. I know racism is out there, because I've seen it. And this isn't the first time I've experience it at the hands of a black person. But it just makes me so darn cranky. And sad. Once my daughter invited a friend (age eight) to spend the night. I said yes, and their was some furious whispering and then my daughter said, real loud, 'you know brionna's black, right?'. Turned out that brionna was nervous about spending the night at our house, because she's black, and wanted to be real sure that I knew she was black.

In this idiots case, I've gotten past being pissed at him. He can't form a coherent argument because he can't get past cussing and name calling - which is a sign of someone who knows they're wrong and that they can't defend themselves. When someone is worse at arguing than me, you know they are bad at arguing.
