LOL, Homburg. In truth my visit was more of a stalking of the delightful ms upbj (aka bijou), but I must admit to a feminine twitter or two while reading.

As to the hostess being available, I'm betting she can arrange to be on the menu.

I'm happy to have provided a twitter. That thread used to embarrass me. I've given up on that these days, and just endeavour to enjoy it rather shamelessly.

Hello....

You know, they really don't have a good smilie for what I was thinking. There isn't one that lends the visual of me sweeping you into my arms and squeezing you tight followed by a combination of smile and kiss. The kiss might linger. It might not. It might melt molten in a pool of sensual pleasure where two become one. All that is a daydream though. Virtual. And the smilies offered do not wrap even looselyaround that thought. So I have to settle for:

Fraid it is. Someone sent me a bottle about a year ago. I thought it might be like Jaegermeister, and it sort of is, but much cleaner and fine-tasting. All in all very powerful. But I like licorice and aniseed-tasting stuff. Would you like some Frangelico instead? Hazelnut is very nice.

There is something gorgeously sensuous about watching the cream liquer and coffee liquer pour from the divided bottles. Done right, it produces two deliscious layers for a lovely visual effect.

And the taste? C'est fantastique!

Unfortunately, my source for grey market Sheridan's is no more. I can no longer get bottles when my Briton mate travels over here as he's emigrated. Of course having one of my best friends in the world an ocean closer is a plus, sooo...

Rambling. Where was I? Oh, yes, perving on Bijou.

Well you ARE a poet... there's a long, fine tradition of drinking at 9 am.

The statue is out, and I am in, and so glad to see that there were some shenanigans in here while I was gone... I stayed so late at the bistro last night that I had to run errands until almost midnight, before getting home finally to thaw out. It's just STUPID cold here.

Champie, yes, I'd missed your absinthe poem - bottom of the page and all. It's lovely! - although I've never found it to taste a bit like licorice. I've had Ouzo a couple of times out of sheer courtesy, but ecchhh.

I'll get my blood caffeine level up and then think about the taste of absinthe and see if I can produce something.

Here's a thought I was having, after attempting and failing yet another poetry critique. - - and considering refrigerators.

I am the Poetry Mom.


You know how when you were a kid you'd bring home the obligatory school projects, the turkey drawn around the outline of your hand, or the mother's day card with pre-cut hearts and scrawled red paint and a little poem, and whatever it was, however awful, your mom probably put it up and the fridge and told you it was beautiful.

The point is, she meant it. She isn't critiquing it, isn't looking at it as an artist or as a judge; she's looking at it from the point of view of someone who loves you and wants to make you feel good, and she means it because to her, it IS beautiful, and she is genuinely proud of you for doing it, however awful YOU might think it is twenty or thirty years later.

When I read something, even if it's written by someone I'm not that fond of, I'm apparently reading it as a Mom, because it takes great effort to get past my basic fondness, for authors, for words, for poetry, for the act of writing itself. It's like asking your mother if, honestly, the turkey drawing with the glued-on construction paper feathers is Good Art.

So yeah, I am never going to be the queen of critique. I'm going to be the congratulatory force, the one who finds the things that you've done really well and mentions those.

I've gotten an extra large fridge for the bistro, and a bunch of excellent magnets. Those with a talent for educated critique can take a gander if they want and provide all that necessary skilled feedback, and I'll just stick to being the poetry Mom.

There's a big urn of excellent coffee all set up, and a large variety of soup and hot sandwiches. And chocolate cake for dessert.

That I did, darling bijou. When are going to come by and model it for me?

I have some flax, and it is lovely. I kid you not when I say that it smells like a clean horse barn. That sort of feed and hay and old wood smell that take sme back to childhood days spent currying horses in my grandfather's barn. It's soft and sensual and lovely, and a wee bit stronger than hemp. Supposed to be more forgiving maintenance-wise too.

I also have some great punk-rope - A bunch of hot pink MFP and a length of Acid Green MFP for colour contrast. I love this stuff! Some people say pink isn't manly, well F*CK EM! It's Punku Kinbaku, and if you don't like it you can suck my koki! (Asterix added because I don't know how y'all poetic types are around coarse language. I AM the Shaggy Man, rawr.) My gal, the wearer of the awesome Demon Skully Converse low-tops and all-around punky hipster something, was the one that fell in love with these colours. She convinced me that they had to be had. Turned out to be a great idea, as the pink was an overwhelming success both in the Bondage Lounge and at the parties we went to. It's so obnoxious that it demands your attention with a flourescent middle finger to uptight rope aesthetes.

And I dyed some nylon-poly blend purple, and it came out dead cool. The nylon takes dye well, but the poly sloughs it off coldly, so I am left with purple rope that has white strands woven in. Very striking. I should take photos of each of these cool new hanks of Potential Restraint Energy.

Not sure why I'm nattering on about rope in a poetry bistro, but, hey, it's passion! Get inspired by my wonky rope colour passionate jibber-jabber and write some free verse!

Colours! Woven restraint
wrapped round limbs
Bodies enshrined in immobility
Free to move in stillness
Taut lines give eyes
impressions of movement
while
holding
very
...still.

Eh, I'm a Rope Artist, not a poet.

Okay, Bistro Fridge Poetry Challenge for the moment has a second subject option:


1. Absinthe
2. The Art of Rope


New survey questions, too:

1. Three vivid phrases describing the weather where you are right now.

2. Most excellent present you ever got?

3. What sentence or question makes you really happy when you hear it from your significant other?

(Poets are encouraged to actually write poems about these things, obviously. And anyone else can write poems too and I'll put them on the fridge. There's no wrong answer at the bistro.)

BONUS: Write a poem about what's hanging on the rear-view mirror of your car.

You are soooo cool. I just lurve the way your fevered little imagination works. I don't care, you can be in the circle or the oval or a trapazoid or howz about a karass? We're all in a big old karass here anyway, you know, and poetry is the wampeter. Have I mentioned I'm a Bokononist? It's such a cool religion. The sacred texts are all written in calypsos, and it has wonderfully cynical aphorisms like:

All of the true things that I am about to tell you are shameless lies.

and~

Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God.

and a little poem I've remembered by heart since first I read it:

Boy I need a drink! I'm coming up for air after two days of intensive writing and researching. It's great fun but I need a little breaky. Very nice bar you have here, sis. It is true that the current weather makes it hard to remember why I wanted to live in Kansas. Any warmer than, oh, say, EIGHT DEGREES Fahrenheit where you are?

I'm totally into the idea of having a combination poetry slam/ shibari demo night. If I bring a bistro to your town you have to promise to help me with that. Talk about bringing poetry to the people...
