No matter what the motive was for the shooter, he probably had legal access to highly lethal automatic weapons, and he certainly had practical access to these devices that are now pervasive in our conflict-ridden and violence-glorifying culture.

The motive is irrelevant to the problem of easy access to guns that make self defense by unarmed or minimally armed citizens impossible. Limiting our actions to prayers and "sending our hearts out" and all that stuff, each time a slaughter like this occurs, is like limiting our actions to sympathy alone. We need to control access to these weapons.

If a person wants to have access to these weapons as a way to defend the country or their community, they should be required to join the military or an official law enforcement agency. And when they leave that role, they will no longer have legal access to what are essentially machine guns.

This has been stated many times before by many other citizens, but it remains as an elephant in the room.

Very unlikely. Quotes I've read were 10 automatic weapons removed from his hotel room. A Class 3 registered NFA automatic weapon will start at about $8000 for an ineffective relic, but most modern examples will cost you $20,000 or more. I highly doubt that he had 10 legally acquired automatic weapons.

Automatic weapons aren't easily accessible. Not by a long shot. There is a tax stamp, a 3-10 month delay, and a trust that needs to be set up to acquire them.

We haven't ever seen a slaughter like this with automatic weapons, outside of the military conducting slaughter on unarmed civilians.
