Zepp, Overated?

Love Zeppelin. Though I can understand why plenty don't.
I can't listen to more than a few stones songs, yet they are adored the world over.
When talking about underrated, please don't overlook John Paul Jones. That man can play. So heavy with so much groove. His work with Dave Grohle on Them Crooked Vultures, is just so good. So good.

JPJ was overlooked by Page and Plant when they decided to do a revival tour

I know, I know, Page is a rock guitar god. I've always thought his tone and delivery are atrocious. He's a riff man, cool. It still doesn't make his sound any less hard listen to. Was he experimental and playing with technical and modal variables? yes. Was the violin bow a gimmick? Yes. Could he play blues? Yes. I just don't adore him as a guitarist. Bonham, totally different story. Plant? I think he had the right voice, but got so caught up in the screaming shit, it got old fast. I'm a Zeppelin I fan, and always will be. Of course, I'm not old enough to of experienced them back in the day, but I cut my teeth on Zeppelin I. There are other albums and songs I like, but none of them get any radio play on the local buttrock station. However, I really dig what Robert did with Alison Krauss. But at the end of the day, he's still a stuck up fuck wad.

Not overrated but over exposed. Victims of their own success. Their songs have been played so much and their sound has copied so often it wore out it's welcome years ago. Especially Plant's screechy vocal style. One guy doing it is enough. When every other hard rock singer does it's grating as hell.

Yes was a whiney, wimpy band.
Zepplin was balls to the walls.

It's why AC/DC beats the living fuck out of Bob Seger.

40 years later the argument of yes or zepplin still goes on (thank fuck no one mentioned gensis)

ACDC achieved their staus through Angus youngs volume and some ability, plus the insane lunacy of Bonn Scott (RIP Bonn 19/02 80). If you want blood, was an appreciable performance live though. The Geordie dick who tried to replace bonn is never going to make the same grade imho. I had the pleasure to see some dates on that tour- ears were ringing for days afterwards. I also had the misfortune to see ACDC just before the drummer was arrested for various offences - there was no comparison, a mere shadow of their former ability.

I had to endure a Seger concert.
By the end of it, I wanted to give him a beating.
He's clearly a one song at a time only type of artist...

I feel the same way about Yes. Just No!

Comrade
whilst it would be the right thing to do to respect not only your opinion, but your right to have one, your dissing of the mighty YES (excluding Trevor Horn) is misplaced in the extreme.

Bob Segar - Turn the page, out classes Hollywood nights, but highlights what a pile of crap hollywood nights is.

Australians (ACDC) are all strange anyway. their PM recently had to be stopped opening fire on a shopping mall crowd with a Bushmaster assault rifle, he still throws bricks at passing cars = yet wants to ban free speech in the media. bunch of crims!

I saw LZ in concerts 4 times. Their earlier concerts were the best. Watching Page and Plant doing the songs from the first album was incredible.

Their later stuff employed their real musical talent to create "feels" that evoke strong love 'em or hate 'em responses. It's definitely not dance or easy listening music, as it's pretty complex, but it is emotionally powerful. I really like some of their later stuff, and really dislike some of it, but there is no question in my mind about their technical musical talent.

the bow wasn't even his gimmick. he stole the idea from eddie philips of the creation. in fact, he stole most of his ideas from other people. this in and of itself is hardly new or even all that bad, but he rarely gave credit where credit was due because he's a fucking asshole.

I have probably at one time heard a LZ song or two but I can't for the life of me remember them.

That has to be a lie.

EVERYONE has heard Stairway to Heaven, whether they wanted to or not
like a million times. You cannot forget that.

I hope you die in a fire.

GOTDAMM that's some cold shit, mama. No pun intended.

I think I would say that Led Zepplin is neither under, nor overrated. I do love them perennially. I have a homie that used to like them, but his attitude has changed over time now such that he is critical of them for stealing from American black blues artists. I ask him if he can still enjoy the music, but for him this is an all or not thing. For me.....I thought maybe a band can transcend the concept after awhile of being 'rated'. Like I would be hard pressed to say if Pearl Jam is overrated, or not, or ACDC. But strangely I find it easier to pass judgment on KISS. I guess it really is to each their own.
