Zelensky is Person of the Year

Presidents should defend their country. We’re setting a low bar when we reward people for simply doing their job. It belongs to those soldiers who told the Russians they wouldn’t move and died for their country.

It’s been so long and newer more exciting events have happened that I don’t remember all the details. It was one of the first encounters and I think it was only a few Ukrainian soldiers. They were given the option to leave, they knew they would die if they didn’t and chose to stand their ground.

Zelensky should refuse it. He’s at war, his people are still dying and it’s a bad look to celebrate while standing on the dead.

Bullcrap to that. The distinction is a deserved slap in the face of Donald Trump (and to Trumpers like you) in how to show how to lead your country.

It's not a prize. It's a magazine article.

I forgot. No matter what anyone writes, if you don’t agree, you only see

Yes, until he's in prison and you wake up to how stupid you've been in following him into rot and sedition.

I agree that the soldiers and the Ukrainian people deserve it even more than Zelenskyy, but Zelenskyy is a symbol for that resistance. He represents the struggle to the world on behalf of the Ukrainian people, and he's demonstrated incredible personal courage and competence in the process.

That's why I brought up "I need ammunition, not a ride." When the Russians were at the doorstep to Kyiv, so many western powers were calling on Zelenskyy to flee, to set up his government in a safer place to the west, or to even flee the country altogether and lead the resistance from afar. But he stayed in the city as a statement that they would not be abandoning it, that they would not let Putin win so easily.

Zelenskyy has also had the task of being a leader that keeps Ukrainian morale high, and a leader that works with military leaders and other countries to coordinate the war, and Ukraine's successes in the war have demonstrated that.

imo Zelenskyy refusing would be a far worse slap to the face to Ukraine than accepting it. This is an acknowledgement of Ukraine's struggle not just these past 10 months, but the years of war that Russia has forced it to endure. It's not a celebration; it's honoring that struggle.
