Creepy story anyway.
I know there is a new version coming out, just called Pan.
The think I've always wondered is why is Peter Pan usually played by a woman?
'Cause it's a creepy story.
All the fuss about insulting caricatures of Native Americans, and nobody goes to bat for the Pirates.
What about it creeps you out?
Why is Peter Pan always played by a girl?![]()

Those kids aren't very well supervised, and all the drugs, and the androgyny...
What version is this??
Because girls are cuter. Duh.
Did you NOT see Finding Neverland.
Apparently Peter's "irrepressible youth"
is based off of
the author's connection
to Wendy.
Neverland
and Peter Pan
are about
Wendy.

Neil Patrick Harris must not have been available.
I did not see that one.
Why is "irrepressible youth" represented as female?
True, but that doesn't explain much.
Because it's about Wendy. You need to see it to understand, it's the biography of the author of the original play.
He met Wendy, a struggling single mom who fell ill. But he often visited her though married because he LOVED her kids, who are the Lost Boys. In the cartoon they are brothers to Wendy. In real life, the kids are her children. But that's too stark for Disney.
When J.M. Barrie played by Johnny Deppvisited Wendy, more ill everyday, he saw her struggling to hold onto life through the happiness she found playing with her children in imagined adventures. He dedicated Neverland to her because when she died, she found it.

It's easier to find girls with the slight frame and pixie like features of the the classic Peter Pan.
