I am not well versed in politics, but as election year rolls around, I wish I were.

I tend to lean toward being conservative in my politics.

What about you?

(Oh, and I don't really know enough about politics to start a good poll! :D)

I didn't vote in the poll as I consider myself as leftoriented (socialist and liberal don't stack much better than socialist and conservative)

I don;t know very much about US politics but I agree with Lilith that your poll is incomplete... IMO both democrats and republicans are pretty liberal... perhaps you should add 'socialist' for the left wingers. And perhaps an option for the ecologists amongst us?

I agree MissT with the two posters before me.

There is not enough choice.

Maybe you could add
- Green
Socialist
Socialist Democrat

And that is just for the lefties since I am a leftie I am not sure about the right wing options that should be there.

Francisco.

Not that I am particularly right wing but I think liberal and conservative covers it pretty much... unless you would want to add 'neo-nazi'...

And I am not sure that Americans see the nuance between 'social-democrat' and 'socialist'... how about 'progressive' for the both?

Wolf

I have always considered myself a liberal...but then I took a test on the GB and came away with this...

Economic left/right -4.38
Social libertarian/authoritarian -5.54

which basically means I am a liberal leftist....

add some more choices MissT

I did that test too and got pretty much ass negative scores as you could get, but in my world liberal and leftist are two very diffrent things so I'm confused over the whole defination.

ahhh hell...i think I like yours MUCH better;)

You think I should run for president...? I am sure I'd get some votes around these parts...

I voted liberal in the poll, but that doesn't really cover it well. I tend a lot more towards socialism than just the democratic party. Looking forward to casting a vote against Bush this coming November.

I am normally very conservative in my politics. Though I do surprise people around by every once in a while taking a left bent. But, as they say (in the US, anyway), liberals are usually those who are very young, very old, or without a lot to lose. Those in inbetween are typically more conservative.

When I was younger (20s and into my 30s), I didn't care for politics and never got involved - other than to complain. During my mid-30s I began to take more interest. Now, in my 40s, I take an avid interest and am usually informed well enough to carry on decent arguments/conversations. A lot of politics is self-educating. It is assinine to rely on ads, particular party affiliations, or propaganda. It takes work, but I feel it's important to keep up with what is going on politically.

PSSST! you don't look a day over 30.... :D

As for my leanings, I have been a republican. Note the have been. I am having real issues with the way the current US administration is handling the country.

My leanings are environmentalist, fiscally conservative, and anti welfare. I believe in a smaller govt. and don't like the govt. interefering in my business. I don't believe tye people in power should enact laws based on personal beliefs to the detriment of major portions of the population.

I still haven't figured out what that makes me, except a mad voter.

I research the candidates on any election I am eligable to vote for, and take the time to vote for the one I feel will best represent me. I am also the asshole who when he hears someone complaining about (insert elected public official here) will stop them and ask who they voted for in the last election. If they did vote, then I will gladly let them rant, otherwise i tell them to shut up, as they have no right to complain unless they voted. (caveat, if the person complaining was not of age to vote the last election, then i make sure they plan to)

LOL, and I thought I was alone in thinking this way these days!!

Didn't vote (on the poll) for a number of reasons. Mostly that there is not currently a party (even not listed) that represents us. We want to be allowed the freedom to marry each other, which would put us on one side, but we also want to keep the freedom to have firearms, which puts us on another side, and then we want to be able to do other things which puts us in a totally different league, in another solar system, I think. I vote, I'm pretty sure that Holly does too, but we have to do a delicate weighing system to pick the least of the multiple evils up for election.

So, I made some changes.

I am not sure if they were sufficient or even what they mean.

:)

I am an eager pupil though.

Hmmm.... I still don't think that Holly and I fit .... but it was a nice try, and I'm sure that others fit (at least better) now.

I think I will join the "SweetDommes" political party.

Who is running for Prez?

;)

Truly though, I think many people have a hard time being able to say they are with one party or another.

But that might just be me.

LOL, I am, of course ...

I mentioned this thread to the boy, he thinks that we fit best (although still not very well) in the libertarian party (sp?).

You're both more Liberitarian than you think:p

i am very conservative, but anti big business, i am all for helping people who truely need help, but hate the welfare system we have today, it only promotes lazyness, and corruption, and many many leeches sucking the middle class worker dry. i hate affirmative action, and believe that businesses should have the right to hire the best person for the job, regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation. i feel the Democrats would bleed us dry with their social programs, and taxes, and think the Republicans need to stop selling out our American workers by allowing all of the major businesses go overseas to save a buck.

As far as the current Adminstration, i am all for the war on terror, and personally feel that any other country who decided not to back us against Al Quaeda(sp) and Iraq can kiss our ass, but hate the pandering they do to the Halliburtons of the world.

My biggest pet peeve is the fact the the U.S. has gone from a manufacturing economy to a service economy.

I am a total fence-sitting moderate.

Oh, and i'm also a terrorist, at least according to Rod Paige.
