Hey guys! There are some awesome threads here. So I thought why not start one here where we can all share our experiences with transsexuals. Feel free to be as graphic as possible, I know the other members will love it!

Sure, okay. I've had all sorts of encounters with trans folk.

There was this one trans lady I knew from a writing group. After years being friends on line, I met up with her and her wife, and we played board games all afternoon. Settlers of Catan, that sort of thing.

Then there are a couple of trans ladies in my local gaming club (at least I think they're trans, haven't asked). More board games.

There's J, one of my partner's classmates from university. Met up with her and her partner (now ex-, sadly) and had dumplings.

Can't remember how I met N. but we had a lot of the same friends. We ended up in similar careers and he was really helpful to me when I was going through some rough stuff, listening when I needed to vent. He's not out at work so if we're talking professionally I have to remember to say "her".

Oh, and A. We dated on and off for about ten or fifteen years (very long-distance relationship though). Went on holiday together, saw Central Australia, Kakadu, and the Great Barrier Reef, then I visited them in the USA and we went to Mass MOCA and geeked out at the Sol LeWitt exhibition there because we're both interested in the intersection of math/science and art. And saw the glass flowers at Harvard, that was awesome.

And a few others, but that's probably enough for now.

I know two trans women.

One works with a state agency that I interact with on a regular basis. She has to put up with all sorts of gawking and other crap from the rednecks in Arizona, because her job requires her to interact with the public at meetings and conferences. However, she is a strong person and excels so much in her profession that she has overcome this discrimination.

Another one I know works in the paint department of a hardware store that I go to on occasion. She also puts up with a lot of crap, and really appreciates it when customers and associates simply accept her for who she is and recognize that she is so much more than her sexual orientation.

A friend of mine plays association football and sings in a girl band so she keeps me grounded from getting too stuffy with intellectual stuff. We meet up occasionally and compare notes. Most recently we've been talking about the bathroom laws in the US and if the same problems will follow into the UK as often happens. We've both been given the 'eye' in public bathrooms before, but only when we were early in our transitions, but so long as you just get on with what you're doing then people don't mind.
I'm hoping to meet up with someone I know online - she races track cars but is super busy chasing sponsors and doing publicity at this time of year, so maybe next winter she'll have some time and we can meet up properly.

anyway, my real life experiences, as opposed to the online trans friends I have...
I met up with a lady who lives in my nearby town. we talked about gender confusion, coming to terms with our being trans, friends and family reactions, etc, whilst drinking Assam tea.

another experience took me surprise. I was with friends seeing the rocky horror show in Blackpool. during the interval we were chatting away and a beautiful lady complimented me on my choice of corset, saying I must be "one of us" because of the way I was dressed, i.e classier than most. she could tell apparently. she told me to watch my posture, smiled and said "don't be afraid". that has stuck with me ever since though it's not always so easy to abide by!
