If you have "spiced ham" on your sub/grinder/hero, that's just Spam-like cold cut thinly sliced. Yeah, the things you learn working at a sub shop.

Actually I'm not a big ham lover anyway, but its not like i haven't eaten those things though.. Thanks.. Crossing those off my list.

spam fritters - huh :)

did you know that spam is YUGE in hawaii? they marinade it in stuff and put it on a slab of rice and wrap it all in something green - seaweed, i think

Have you tried it?

Mikey likes it.

Spam's pretty big in the AK, too.

It was a staple for my father, his brothers, brothers-in-law when they went hunting overnight. Fried Spam and eggs for breakfast, along with hashed potatoes.

have i tried spam fritters? sure, i grew up with them. with tomato sauce (ketchup). probably the best way to eat the stuff, but it's not something i'd happily eat now - so greasy

Just checking. Many people disdain foods because it's fashionable to do so, not because they've actually tried them.

Equally annoying is those who can't believe that you don't like a food. With me, it's fish. People are actually SHOCKED that I don't like it, telling me that I've not tried the "right" way or from the "best" restaurant.

If it smells like fish, make it a dish, if it smells like cologne, leave it alone... Or something witty like that.

well to be fair, whatever that thing is crawling out of that turkey that started this convo may taste good, but I'm just gonna have to take your word for it LOL

If spam was all I could have to eat, I would surely starve to death. Despise the stuff. That and Hormel's hash in a can.

i am definitely not one of those. i'll only knock it (usually) if i've tried it. some pics of food do put me off, though that's more often due to the enormous, obscene size of the portions, like this https://assets3.thrillist.com/v1/image/1714758/size/tmg-article_default_mobile;jpeg_quality=20.jpg

they are! yours?

That looks like it might taste good today, and the leftovers tomorrow, in some hash.

If it smells like fish, throw it out. Fish should smell like the sea - or lake or river.

Learned that while working at a resort. German chefs would always smell the fish before cooking.

I just grew out of liking fish. Maybe it could have been the fact my Catholic mother made us have it EVERY Friday, Lent or not.

I smell everything before cooking. If it doesn't pass the sniff test, it's pitched.
