The first to show effects are retail stores. It is spring, and and spring treats are sparse. Even Whole Paycheck is subdued.

German-Style Roasted Cauliflower Salad with Lovage

Ingredients

1 large head cauliflower, cut into 1-inch florets
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
6 slices bacon
½ cup finely chopped red onion
2 tbsp finely chopped lovage
2 tbsp finely chopped Italian parsley
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp honey
½ tsp mustard powder
½ teaspoon paprika

Instructions

Heat oven to 425°F. Spread cauliflower in single layer on nonstick cookie sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; toss well. Roast 15 minutes. Stir and then roast 5 to 10 minutes longer or until tender and golden brown.

Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove with slotted spoon to paper towel-lined plate

In large bowl, toss roasted cauliflower, bacon and onion. In small bowl, beat oil, vinegar, sugar, mustard and paprika with whisk until smooth. Pour dressing over cauliflower mixture; toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour until chilled or overnight.

Will have to try that. I have been obsessed with cauliflower lately. Cauliflower mashed "potatoes". Bacon and cheese, cauliflower chowder. Cauliflower rice.

I have the "potatoes" down to the point it takes you a few bites to realize there is no potatoes.

It was agreed on this morning, by unanimous vote at the breakfast table with the kiddles:
We - the kids and I - are making Mother's Day breakfast, which will feature Crabby Benny.

Crabby Benny is the name we have come up with for soft poached eggs served atop golden, fresh crab cakes, topped with a wee ladle of silky, lemony hollandaise, and fresh chopped chives and tarragon.

That sounds absolutely delicious. Lucky Lady. :)

Oatmeal with a little brown sugar and a handful of raisins for breakfast. In a green glass bowl. Boring, but good.

Is anyone else here a Primitive eater?
It's like Paleo, but a lot less strict - allowing legumes, rice, etc.

I changed to this way of eating almost a year ago when dx with both Psoriatic Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, and it has made a huge difference.
Although I sometimes have trouble adapting my favourite recipes to Primitive, on the whole it hasn't been too difficult to adapt.

The best bit has been experimenting with new spices and flavours like sumac, harissa, chermoula, etc.

My idea of primitive is only eating as much as you can, only protein you catch, kill, clean, and cook yourself.

Spring trout & salmon season has been bumper, despite the high water levels here this year and not getting out as much as I wanted. But my freezer is full of wild caught fish that didn't come out of a pen. And spring turkey season is still open.

This is my idea of a "primitive" lunch. Spring Perch, with a handful of wild herbs picked on the walk home.

And 20mins later it's turned into a Panko & pesto lunch treat (no I didn't sift the panko breadcrumbs by hand, or raise the Durum wheat for the pasta in my backyard.)

Paleo type humans were all about feast and famine. Never knowing when next meal may drop dead near you they gorged themselves until stomachs bloated and they couldn't move. Now we have reliable food sources and we still do the same. You should by rights go to bed feeling hungry.

I have tried to get to this point, but I always know it's cauliflower. Maybe I haven't tried the right recipe, yet?

By the time the mashed cauliflower gets to be awesome, you've already got a bunch of butter and cream mixed in with it, so why wouldn't it be awesome?

I'm not a huge fan of food alchemy where people are trying to turn this into that.

I need to go to Thor's house. I'm hungry and there's nothing in the pantry. I don't want to put on pants, either.

Alaskan grass fed organic sirloin tip steaks are in a balsamic marinade right now. Bring fresh green vegetables.
