Last night I had the best lamb kabobs I've ever had. And Raki. We met friends at a fabulous little Turkish place that none of us had tried before. The fresh lavash was delicious, as was the hommus and babaganoush.
Tonight, we'll be having the goat bratwurst we bought at the Farmers Market for the Super Bowl!

Raki is definitely an acquired taste much like Ouzo, Arak, Sambuca or Sake for that mater. Did ya drop in a coffee bean in the Raki and set the shot on fire first?

i'll just google "subdivines" on my own.
Sub bun, ham, pepperoni, onions, banana peppers, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar cheese. Foil the bun first and cook the whole thing in the oven until the cheese is completely melted. Subdivine.
I'm turning it into grilled cheese sandwiches minus the lettuce and tomatoes, and adding a richly-herbed mayo to them.

No they didn't! However, now I'm intrigued. I've never seen that done before. We have Raki at home because we enjoy it. Our Turkish waiter seemed put-off that we ordered it as a "starter" while we were waiting for our friends to arrive. He was cute though and felt he needed to explain how strong it was.
We did though have Turkish coffee to end with and that was quite stout!

I've just finished making fresh garlic butter.
The whole house smells like minced garlic - best done the old way, with a knife.
Making baked subs for dinner..... bread roll, garlic butter, ham, pepperoni, pancetta, mozarella, cheddar, parmesan, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach. Build, wrap in foil, and bake for 10 mins.

I go fishing and scuba dive....normal here...so often on a Sunday early..on the water..back mid morning...fresh fish..crays and in season scallops....long midday lunch coming up.

One of my go to's
For those of you that don't like chopping herbs. I use a heaping teaspoon or 2 to any soup or stew I make. It's great in mayo also.

Turkish coffee is "basically" but not quite espresso coffee boiled. Don't say that to anyone Turkish though lol. My grandmother would make it on the stove top in 1 of those teeny tiny coffee pans. It wasn't done until it boiled over the top
. Then she would pour it into the official coffee cup. The coffee bean & lighting the Raki is a cultural thing. Though your burning off the alcohol
. Your supposed to chew up the coffee bean. It helps mask the alcohol on your breath. Tip, keep a few beans in your car if you ever get pulled over by the cops after you've been drinking pop them in your mouth and start crunching them up.

If you can get fresh or dried from a butcher shop or specialty store even better but this is convenient and full of flavor. I often add it to stews or soups, usually with some diced smoked ham.
