Well...tell me about it.

Was it painful? Did you take a long while to decide what to get or did you just walk in and pick something? Where did you get it? Do you or have you ever regretted it?

I've been kicking this idea around for a few years now, and after some lonnnnnng deliberation I've found two patterns that I like quite a bit.

At this point I'm undecided which one of the two to get, or where to put it. But...I'm about 95% sold on the idea of getting one.

I should of prefaced this post by saying that I'm insanely phobic of needles, but my previous conversations with people tell me that it's not like getting an injection. lol....so that much calms me somewhat.

Discuss.

it's a duck

I've wanted one for 10 years and was finally inspired.

Needles don't scare me.

I gave birth naturally, needle pain is nothing.

It felt like a vibrating burn, not too bad.

I'm getting another one, I believe on friday.

theme "lesbian lizard"

PS. I've done some designing if you're interested.

A duck? How fitting! <wink>

I've heard that...."vibrating burn" description before. I could handle that, I believe. lol

And...as far as the design goes, I've got the patterns picked out. I started out looking at celtic designs, even commented to lilfrk about her one av, and since then I've found a great tattoo artist (Pat Fish) in california who has a couple on her website that I like quite a bit.

But...thank you for your offer. <G>

Make sure of your design is all I can say my first one was a chinese Character...I decided quicky and hated it ever since just got it covered last year (which was a pain)

I like the pain of tattooing it is a slow easy burn....It does hurt but it is so worth it!!!

I even got a pic taken while I got my leg done...it was a snap three hours and I have a gorgeous tat to show for it!

Body art -- glad I did the ink.
have never regretted it
something personnal from my past ,that remains part of me in the present.

I've got over 120 hours of tattoo time on my bod. One thing I can tell you is don't get a tattoo unless you are 100% sure. 95 % aint good enough.

The pain is different depending on where you get the tattoo. The ones on my ass, elbow, and stomach all hurt like a mother in law, but they all hurt in a different way. My stomach tattoo left me feeling physically ill, but I think that was more to do with the constant drumming on my stomach wall.

I'll bump a couple of threads for ya.

Thanks for the info. And...believe me...the 5% that I'm unsure of is mainly just the "where it'll go" aspect.

I appreciate everyone's comments. <G>

I have been wanting a tattoo for some time and I finally decided on what I wanted. I'm 100% sure. I'm treating myself next month for my birthday! I've decided that I want crossing shamrocks on my lower back between my dimples and one single shamrock on the back of my right shoulder. I can't wait!

I got a tattoo when I was on vacation for my 40th birthday. I hadn't really thought about it until a few days before, on my way into town. I guess I knew my life was about to undergo a lot of changes and I needed to surprise myself a little. I know I shocked most of the people who knew me.

I knew I wanted a little red heart and I knew where it was going to go, but I had to look through their books to find the exact design I wanted.

I was really worried that I'd end up with just one dot, that he'd stick the needle in one time and I'd say "OK, that's good enough, thanks very much." But it really wasn't that bad (and I'm a pretty big wuss). The outline didn't hurt, and the filling-in part didn't really hurt until he was about half done. It wasn't so much a pain as an annoying, nagging feeling.

I'm really glad I did it. What are you thinking about getting? Do you have scanned copies of the designs you're considering?

and feel free to show us where you're going to put this tattoo too *wink*

I have a small tattoo on my back , it did not hurt at all. When the needle first touched my skin it just gave me a shiver then its rather relaxing.

I don't regret it at all.

I'd post the pictures...but they are copywritten on the woman's website. (Don't want to break the rules!) But...if I can do this correctly, I'll post the links:

First one is a celtic knot...called "Merlin's Knot"

Second one is a celtic design also created by Pat Fish.

As far as where I'd get them...that's what I'm deciding on now. <g>

Careful consideration.....

Proceeded my art, my family clan crest. The second is a celtic wolf with a broken crown and collar with a sword in it's mouth meaning, "Slave to no man or king."
I researched this decision for about 6 months, contacted a friend who had some great art to find a good ink slinger, and made the appt. The "pain" was less than any other needle thing I've had done to me, it's less than giving blood. Each of my tats were 2 1/2 hours each non-stop. It was fun, and I'm proud of the work.

Those are both really nice designs, V! Are you leaning toward one or the other?

and really, if you want to post pics of the places you might put them, we'd be willing to evaluate and help you decide...*grins*

lol...At first, I was set on the Merlin's Knot....probably on either one of my shouderblades or in the top center of my back.

Then..I found the other one which would either look good on a shoulder, or on my arm.

<sigh> Decisions decisions. LOL

Sorry neither place is overly exciting to photograph. <wink>

I suppose I could always get that av tattoo'd on my ass, hmm?

mine is right there on my shoulder...first one....hope to get another in a few months....on my back

I've got one. I've wanted a tat for over a decade and knew it would be a chinese dragon. I didn't like most of the tats I saw through the years and then I found this one and fell in love with it. I didn't actively search for it.

I got it done on my right thigh, outside, in the muscle. It hurt more at first because I wasn't expecting it, but it feels nothing like an injection. It took an hour for the whole thing and I slept through most of it. I was tired when I went in.

They thought I was nuts to get such a large tat on my first shot, but I only planned on one in my life so that was that.

The healing part was the pain in the ass. I couldn't wear pants for the first few days and after that nothing tight until the scabs fell off. I wanted to pick 'em soooooooo bad. Don't pick the scabs!

The StudMuffin ripped his tat like three hours after he got it on accident and now he has to go in and get it fixed. So, be careful with it.

Mine was simple enough, they put the pattern on and colored inside the lines. It's one color without a lot of room for what they call artistic expression and what I call fuckupability. Don't choose the artist based on price or locale or because your friend's brother's cousin needs the work. Make sure you see samples of actual tatoos or if you know someone with tats, find out where they got it done at. That way if you like the "art" you have an outlet and if you don't like the "art" you can avoid them.

I watched the chick who did mine at work several times. The StudMuffin was looking for a tat to cover up a tat and browsed the catalogs for a few hours and I watched the artists work.

Be picky!

You need to decide on the placement already! Just do it! You have thought about it for so long you need to just go and get it!

I have stated elsewhere what mine was like...I think it was at that moment I realized something about myself more so than birth both cesarean and completely natural had ever accomplished, pain is relative to the individual. It was not painful. The place mine is in is a sensitive spot but mostly because I am highly ticklish. I knew for a long time that I would get a tattoo. I had discussed getting one for years. Finally my mother said she was going to get hers (a tiny one on her foot no bigger than the size of a dime but she got it) So I made the appointment and went. I had my design drawn for me by a friend and adapted further by the tattoo artist. It took about three hours. Some people get it inked first depending on the size and then colored in at another sitting. I had it all done right then and there. I knew all along what I wanted and I don't regret getting it. It is just inside my right hip...though it is bigger than I had originally expected I am very happy with it...though I do have to have it recolored. I was supposed to have it done months ago but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm 44 and I got my first tattoo 6 months ago. I'd wanted one for years but never found anything I liked, but I wanted one to celebrate the end of a miserable marriage.

I found a symbol from Ghana on the net which means "life transformation", it is a star within a circle with spokes round the outside, done in blackwork, about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The star represents Venus the morning star (the dawn of a new day) and the rest of it is like a wheel representing time going on and on.....I have a pic but it's too big to post :) I got it on the small of my back, the "vibrating burn" description is pretty accurate, especially going over the spine  but it was a good pain if you know what I mean :D

Since then I've got another one on my left upper arm, and wouldn't be averse to getting a third or even a fourth, if I could find something that "spoke" to me :)

I have a tattoo-
usagi
It is my first and only tattoo and is in one of the worst possible places you can get a tattoo. Apparently my pain threshold is high [ and I'm waisting that talent as a virgin ] because it wan't that much of a bother. No screaming, no crying, and after about an hour and a half into the thing the needle noises started to make me sleepy. It was a neat experience- fear it not.

Warning: Addictions can happen. I can't wait until my next tattoo.

dont got one yet, but i want one, hell it cant be worse then piercings right?

I forgot to metnion- draw your own. Never pick anything off the wall. Originality rocks.
