Your First Car.

I had a white Fiat Punto with blue interior and I loved it! Coolest, cutest little car that ever there was. Unfortunately I skidded on some black ice and wrote it off. I bought a new car that day (had to have one to go to work the next day) and due to that my current car is a skoda! Very reliable but as ugly as hell and boring to drive. When I've saved up enough I'm buying a new punto!

1970 dodge dart
hand painted with marine paint, had to avoid rust yannow ;)
stalled going around corners
interior: um grey upholstery with a steering wheel that was HUGE and metal

i loved that damn thing.
 
The first car that was truly only "Mine" was a 1984 Corvette---white with charcoal interior

The other cars were all "ours" as a couple ......starting with a 1969 GTO---silver with black interior

I only drove My parents' car before I was married.

That's evidence of my age, and not some kind of retro-coolness. ;)

I have a Taurus wagon now, and I would like to get something newer. But, there does not appear to be anything on the market that is equivalent!

Specifically, I like the wagon because I can put lots of things in it (including two mountain bikes) and on it's standard roof rack (including a 18.5 foot canoe). Also, unlike a minivan, it does not have a high profile, which is good because I drive a lot on open roads that are subject to stiff cross-winds. The Taurus is comfortable, had decent power, is aerodynamic and reaonably efficient.

Is it asking too much to be able to get something newer that has all the equivalent features? Apparently. The closest thing I've found is the Dodge Magnum. Oh yeah, it looks cool, but it has less room inside and is heavier (WTF?). The standard engine is not underpowered compared to the Taurus. It's hard to find a used one with a roof rack because it's not standard.

(I buy slightly used cars, not new ones - the new car dealer cartels created by state legislatures at are an anti-consumer protectionist racket and I refuse to play their game - sorry, but let someone else pay the 15-20 percent premium for the "priviledge" of driving a new one off the lot.)

What else is out there? Crossovers. I think SUVs are the dumbest and most inefficent vehicles ever invented for on-road use, so why would I want something whose main feature is that it's slightly less dumb?

Grumble, grumble, grrrr . . . I'm about to spend some money to keep the Taurus in service for a few more years, even though I would like to spend even more money to get something better - if it existed.

Idiot car makers.

Wow, you guys had some cool cars. Everyone seems to have something retro and trendy now. I'm guessing it wasn't so back in the day :eek: :p
 
My first real car was a 1979 Mustang Pace Car replica with tubo charge and Recaro seats and a kick ass stereo. I really wanted a 1964 and helf Mustang Convertable wtih a hemy and a hurst like one of my brothers had. At the time my mother was trying to buy my affection and went out and bought me this.

But my first car was actually a 1972 Pinto that that I got for free just to take it off the man's lawn. It didn't run except for a few weeks. My dad got it up and going and then my mom stepped in and bought me the Mustang.

The Mustang was really a POS, it was new but it was back when fords were shit (I'm not sure that has changed). I had problems with it the entire time I had it. Finally it died and my Dad rebuilt the engine and gave it to one of my brothers.

What is so fucking wierd is that I went to visit my brother in Hawaii after I graduated from college. One day I was riding along with my sister in law and saw my car in front of us at a stop light, this was in Pearl City. I knew it was my former car cuz of the bumper stickers.

Just kinda weird.
 
A red 1988 Mazda B2200 pickup truck. It had a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder and could take anything thrown at it.
 
Mine was a brand new Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Merit, cheeky car, personnally not keen on UK Fords

Must be a Canadian thing ... mine was a full sized 1986 chevy pickup truck, white in colour and pretty much impossible to kill (still got it and yes it runs!)
