OMG- that's the movie I was trying to think of when I saw the title of the thread- I saw it when I was young and really liked the tough bitches- I need to see it again, though I'd probably think it was really cheesy now...
Shawshank and The Green Mile were both amazing (books and movies).

I am glad that someone else mentioned stir crazy, even if it is a comedy it was excellent.
Face/off is my other choice
although not exactly a prison movie
the prison scences were awesome.
