Your favorite moment in TV history

What is it?

I just read Green Eggs and Ham to my son. I thought of Jessee Jackson doing it on SNL, that is one of my favorite TV memories. Funny shit.

I don't know about favorite. The leading candidate had to be the first launches into space and the moon missions.

The former most impactful due to my age was the footage from Viet Nam.

But now it is still the slack-jaw disbelief of watching the second plane fly into the second tower live and then the collapses of the towers...

Greatest moment in time?

I don't think I have a greatest

but one of my favorits is in Reboot after bob was sent into the net.

Enzo Matrix takes over as gardian of the system.
the episode when he enters the mortal Kombat type game and loses, the Episode ends with Dot Matrix Screaming as the game cube goes away.

game over.... User WINS
Enzo AnDrAa and Frisket are all thought to be nulafied.

I was going for tv shows. But that would have to be the TV MOMENT.

The opening show of LA law where a partner dies in his corner office over the weekend and on Monday morning, everyone is scavaging his office furniture before the stiff body is even wheeled out. Classic! It was particularly funny since I worked in an office exactly like that, although not a law firm. We were all talking about that scene the next morning at work.

For me it's Neil Armstrong stepping onto the moon, that seemed and still does to be one hell of an achievement. The only other thing that sticks in my mind, is Princess Diana's funeral.

Funny what we remember the most, isn't it?

This was my favorite moment above, but I'd agree that watching the second plane fly into the WTC had to be the one with the most impact.

Non-fiction t.v., that was right there with watching Bobby Kennedy get shot (although in reruns the next morning) and Neil Armstrong step on the moon (stayed up to watch that live--I was 13?).

Fiction: the M*A*S*H* episode was a bit of a let down for me, except for the story-line about the Chinese prisoner orchestra.

I can't think of one that I would unequivocally call the "greatest."

(And good morning, cbg89; how are you today?)

That was the best part. And finally hearing the words to the song.

(I'm doing good, how are you?)

you never heard the words to the song?
they had it in the movie. and I always hated that the series only had the music and not the words. It is a touching song.

lol when was the final ep of mash?
cause most things people are nameing.... I wasn't alive for so wondeing if this ep was during my lifetime

Most memorable would be the footage from 9/11, but I was also awake and watching live footage when challenger blew up and I have to say I only have to close my eyes and I can see it all again.

This one is for the Brits out there, the moment Tommy Cooper died live (excuse the pun) on stage at the palladium and in front of millions who were also watching the show on TV.......still miss that guy.

For me, it's got to be the "Vitameatavegimen" episode of I Love Lucy. It doesn't get any funnier than that!!!!

"Do you poop out at parties? Are you unpopular?" Then, the drunken Lucy says, "Do you pop out at parties? Are you un poopular?" LOVE IT!!!

hmmmm Fly you were probably just barely alive. I don't remember what year it was for sure, but I know I was young and that I had to beg my parents to stay up and watch it.

i love google

"The M*A*S*H series first aired on September 17, 1972, on CBS and the final episode was shown on February 28, 1983."

And I'm quite well today, cbg89, thanx. Had a good night's sleep for a change.

[edited to add the following]

'Suicide is Painless' by Johnny Mandel and Mike Altman

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...

REFRAIN:that suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you please.

I'll bet there's an ancient Lit member who thinks this was fake.

some of the best written TV I've seen is the last 5 episodes of babylon 5.

as for a TV moment: 9/11 ( was at work watching it when the 1stg one came down) and challenger, (junior in high school)

One that sticks in my mind

was the very first airing of the musical "Cinderella" with Lesley Anne Warren in the starring role. My family's first color television had been delivered that day (this was when it was still a big deal for a program to be broadcast in color -- remember the peacock?). We were the first ones on our street to have a color set and all the neighbor kids came to sit around and watch the show. Our den was jam packed with people. We had a blast. That show (and it's music) still gives me warm & fuzzies.

Unfortunity the two most memorable visions are watching the Challenger blow up, not on re-runs mind you and watching the twin towers collapse. It is a poor thing to have only disasters be in this category.

Hmm perhaps this is shallow but I would have to say my favorite moment on TV was when I was about 12 or 13 and somehow the cable company screwed up and I was getting the playboy channel all night :)

The one where our (pregnant) news reporter announced during the peak time news, "Excuse me, Ladies and Gentlemen, but I am going to faint now" and drops off the chair. :D

I remember that episode too, and it was very funny.

It's very nice to see you back at Lit, BTW! I've missed your being here, th.

BTW, that quote in your sig line is Bruce Springsteen, isn't it??? ;)

Why, thank you, Storm! I rather enjoyed that, too. ;)

Surrealistically speaking, though, I'd have to say that the most powerful moment on TV for me had to be seeing JFK's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, being shot and killed, "live". It was like the 9/11 WTC footage, unscripted history, but I was a kid then, and had nightmares about it for weeks. I'll never forget it.

What about the footage of Margaret Thatcher leaving Downing Street for the last time? Or the moment it was announced that the action in the Gulf War had started?

Like a lot of others said, though, one of the most enduring moments will always be connected to the Twin Towers, even over here in the UK.
