So....I'm perusing the shows on abc.com and lamenting the fact that the stupid ass "Cavemen" show still hasn't been cancelled. This is worst piece of tripe.

How is it that shows like this seem to go on forever and some really wonderful shows never get the attention they deserve?

What was are your favorite early-cancelled televion shows? You know the best shows that no one bothered to watch?

Mine:

I'm not a big situation comedy fan, but in 1999, there was an incredibly funny and witty sit com called "It's Like You Know" with the VERY funny Evan Handler, as well as Jennifer Gray (as herself, post-nose job), A.J. Langer, and Steven Eckholdt.

It was produced by the folks who did Seinfeld (which I liked, but didn't love). "It's Like You Know" was so stealthy in its wit....a very intelligent show. It didn't spoon feed you the humor...it was subtle. Utterly watchable. Nobody watched it! Cancelled. I just didn't get it.

In 1999, there was a show called Brimstone:

"Ezekial Stone, a former cop, killed his wife's rapist and was later killed himself. He is sent to Hell for his crime. However, 113 evil souls have escaped, and the Devil sends him back to Earth to recover them. Both Stone and the escaped souls can only be harmed or killed by each other, and they can be sent back to Hell if their eyes (the "windows to the soul") are destroyed. If Stone can recover all 113, then he'll be given a second chance at life...or so the Devil says."

It lasted 13 episodes.

Upright Citizens Brigade on Comedy Central and Home Movies on AS.

And as bad as it is when a show is canceled early, it's worse when it starts out good and keeps going long after it should have been canceled.

Was Dresden cancelled? Fuck.

Well, not exactly canceled. They just declined to bring it back for another season. Sci-Fi Network actually slipped the news into another news story in a particularly craven way. They mentioned that the guy who played Dresden had signed a contract to appear on another show (which, of course, makes him unavailable for The Dresden Files).

There was also a show called Dark Skies that premiered at the same time as The Pretender.

DS was cancelled after one season, while The Pretender (which started out good) kept going.....ad nauseum.

Yeah it was a little cheesy, but I loved Dark Skies!! "He's HIVE!!"

Is that the one where they had to inject nail polish remover into the backs of people's necks to kill the alien slugs that were controlling them?

What do you mean? They're not showing Home Movies anymore?

Certain AS shows, like Home Movies need to be on prime time network tv.

Does Futurama actually count as an early-cancelled show? I mean, I don't argue that it was cut short and should have gotten at least a few more seasons - though, it hopefully would have ended before it ceased to be funny like The Simpsons - but it did get four seasons.

Unless they started to show it again recently and I missed it, no, they're not showing Home Movies anymore.

Yeah. Too bad AS is so hit and miss.
