What sounds do you have setup on your computer? You know, like when email comes in, or when an error dialog pops up, or when the computer boots?

When my computer boots, it plays Montgomery Burns saying "excellent!", when email comes in it plays Johnny Bravo saying "hubba hubba", when an error dialog comes up it plays Johnny Bravo saying "Ow! Momma!"

:D

My computer just makes grinding screeching noises whenever i till it to do anything. Do you think that is bad? ;)

Quiet sounds better, nobody knows what's happening!
I do not like when people put sounds on their work computers - unless they wear headphones; the sounds are very distracting when other people can hear them.

Now at home, or in a private office, then sounds are a nice personal touch as long as you don't get too carried away. If you are running a good OS, a fast CPU and a decent sound card that off-loads the sound reproduction from the CPU, then sounds are okay. I do occasionally still sit down to someone's computer that is very slow and they have all kinds of stuff going at the same time hogging CPU resources.

I've got a collection of .wav files with Victor Borge doing "phonetic punctuation". To that scheme I added a female voice panting. "Oh, yeah" which plays whenever my computer is turned on.

All moot, since I keep the speakers off.

my computer at home...well my wife's computer.....has the kids saying.....

"hey mom....you've got mail..."...kinda cute:)

I want my computer to make sex sounds. :D Sadly, all it does right now is make the usual noises. Beeps and such.

For a while I had my computer set up to play the Monty Python "Spam" song whenever I got mail. THE WHOLE SONG. My husband nearly strangled me. We share an office at home.

:D

I would love to put my own sounds on my PC at startup but I have no idea how to go about doing it, I run windows 98se and I wouldn't even have a clue where to look or where to put the sounds ?

With most versions of Windoze, to change/setup sounds for different events, you go to the "Start" menu, select "Settings" to get your control panel, then you select "Sounds" or "Sounds and Multimedia" depending on what version of Windoze you have. Within the dialog that comes up, you are allowed to select different events for which you set the sounds. A bit of experimentation is often necessary to find out which event you are really setting the sound for - or you can probably look it up on the 'net.

Don't go crazy and set sounds for every event - only those you really want.

I really only want to set a sound for the startup of the PC
On my PC (Win 2000) there is an event called "Start Windows". If you can't find such an event in your sound events, then there are a number of Wav files in the Windows directories that are the default startup sounds which you can replace, but that is the crude and inflexible way to do it. Try the sound events dialog first.

If you are going to overwrite the Windows files, you may want to save the old ones first.

thanks I think I may have just done it, if I have then the next time I boot up I'll here a recording of my self burping

Well you can always record the sounds yourself, and then assign them to the different actions ;)
