You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me

I hope their dowry as a married couple is several million dollars and a "sorry" note from a person who used to have the authority to hand out marriage licenses.

I sense a judge about to get :
a) sued
b) removed from the bench

Well, my interracial marriage has lasted 17 years and counting. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Where did this justice get his statistics from? And how much worse is the divorce rate among interracial couples?

But what the hey? I think this is a good thing. People hear about such discrimination, are shocked by it, and sometimes it makes them have second thoughts about their own views on gay marriage.

That said, the justice is an asshole and should be sued and removed from the bench. It's none of his business who marries who, or if they have kids for that matter.

Mebbe the judge was making a point?

Ok, mebbe not, he's probably just a douche.

Once you travel more than 20 miles in any direction from NO or Baton Rouge, you are back in 1955 only with modern conveniences. ;)

What I find funny was the 'I'm thinking of the children'

Ya. 'cause people can't have kids if they aren't married

You have 14 years on my interracial marriage, but my bride and I were both 55 when we did the deed, and had no thought of issue. I have never heard anybody even express any misgivings about it, but that's partly because she's so sweet.

I agree the JP is an asshole, who ought to be booted from office and sued, if that can be done. Sometimes public officials have a certain shield protecting them from lawsuit over their performance of their duties. Maybe the worst part is that the man and woman weren't giddy teenagers. They were in their thirties and, presumably, would know what they were doing.

Yes, you are very obviously doing something wrong. This guy's the expert you know, so what he says has to be the absolute truth. Just like everything we can read on the internet.

I smell a judge about to get sued and summarily dismissed from the bench, at the very minimum.

Jeez...apparently he's done this before- ''his wife said he won't sign marraige licenses for Interacial couples'' and no one's collared him on it...

My parents interracial marriage lasted almost forty years - until my father passed away. Five kids from it, and we're all doing fine.

My own interracial marriage has lasted sixteen years so far, and three kids, also doing fine.

Gee, we must be doing something wrong.

My parents have some friends who are an interracial couple and they cashed in big back in the 80's when they got married. A hotel in Tennessee refused to honor their reservations after learning that it was for an interracial couple. I don't remember the hotel chain or exactly how much they got, but it was millions.

They won the stupid lottery. I hope this couple makes out as well.

What does their ability to kiss have to do with anything? ;)

This reminds me of someone saying the other day that racial tensions in the country are a thing of the past, and how wrong they were.

Silly! :D

You're right, they're not past. They can still destroy a person's life before the law enters into in. Just like murder and rape and theft. When you have someone like this that's dictating the law, it's especially chilling.

and we all know that children of interracial marriages never make anthing of themselves...

I wonder if he has any idea who is the President of the United States??? ;)

In some twisted way it might even be some righteous asshole's dig at the President.

"I'm going to take a stand and ruin my career because nobody else knows what's right in this world! I said they used my bathroom, isn't that enough for you people?"

He's got PRINCIPLES.

And hopefully he will have lots of unemployed time to ruminate upon them.

Then again he doesn't strike me as someone who has kept up with current events for the last...oh...50 years or so.

Well said, dear.

I am afraid it doesn't surprise me. If he doesn't receive the proper retribution for his actions, that will surprise and disappoint me.

I've known judges to do some crazy stunts. People become judges because they cant make any money as lawyers.

But I wonder how accurate this report is. I'd bet my money that something is wrong with the license-application and the couple is playing the race card.

Cloudy, how could you? Don't you know that those kids aren't going to be accepted by either side?

Hey, the judge was right there. Obama's parents didn't stay together. And look at the hard time he had as a kid (he had to work at Baskin Robbins for heaven's sake! And then he had to get an elite college education!). I mean, do you really want that for other interracial couples? The marriage fails, the kids have it rough and then they become a huge success?

This particular judge appears to be living in a few decades past. Perhaps he should retire.
They should just go to another judge. What's the problem?
