After having numerous various chapters of my longest story being found on multiple other sites....and without any credit to me as author, or Literotica via a hot link....I decided to fire my own shots back.

First was the semi-polite, email to the web site administrator:

"Your site and I have a serious problem" <~~~(the email title line)

"And one that needs addressed immediately!" <~~~(the header before the body below)

(everything below is one inclusive quote)

"The following link will take you a story that appears on your site. It has not only has been lifted from the Literotic site; but also done with neither MY permission, nor attribution credit given....which is blatant federal copyright law violation....especially since the story is both copyrighted and well noted of such at the site it was taken from.

Within the next 72 hours, I expect one of two things to happen:

Either proper copyright designation and authorship credit is added and a hot link *TO* the story at the Literotica site provided.....

.....*OR* the entire story is REMOVED from your site; permanently.

While I am pleased that chapter was good enough to catch your attention; I am anything BUT happy about the theft of my work.

I will hope you see how serious the problem is, and that it will cease BEING one in the next 3 days, so further action is not necessary.

Thank you,

<specifics deleted as suggested>

aka: pizzaboyatdoor on Literotica"

(end of inclusive quote}

<~~~***~~~***~~~****~~~>

Then just a little while ago (4-1/2 days after the email went out) this was posted to their Facebook page:

"Yeah a wunnnerful web site....if you dont mind supporting one that STEALS other's copyrighted works and posts them without attribution or credit or links to where they lifted them from....and then IGNORES requests to do so! I asked nicely and gave you 72 hours.....it's headed for a full week now! Want to see what happens NEXT if you don't do something real quick??? The attorney's number is on speed dial....THIEF!"

May not get a damn result other than having my comment zapped off their FB page....when and *IF* they see it....but fuck that felt good!!! :D

Unless you fantasized that name and location in your letter sign off, you might want to delete it from the post.

Even the most legitimate of the distribution sites seem to be glazed-eyed about this proprietary business. I've changed publishers on some four-year-old works to relaunch them, and neither Amazon nor B&F seem to be able to grasp that publishing permissions have changed and the old work they have up--that the original publisher has repeatedly requested be taken down--no longer is legally on offer in that version.

It's a gesture full of sound and fury, but if it makes you feel better, then I say it's worth it :)

If the site owner knows anything about copyright law, the legal threat isn't going to scare them in the least. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to have legal protection for your work in the U.S., and even if you do, the cost of going through with trying to take legal action would have to be on principal, because you're not even likely to recover your own legal costs.

Sadly that's about all you can really do is malign them.

By posting here you are pretty much giving away your stuff for free. I understand the difference is that at least your "name" is getting credit here.

Lit will try to help, but its impossible for them to keep up with the amount of theft that goes on here.

This is a risk we all take. Sadly they will probably delete your comment and I think the average reader could care less if you're the original author or not.

But good for you for doing something, even if it just amounts to venting. Hell if it costs them a couple of readers it was worth it.

On Dark's copyright comment he's right the costs would eat you alive.

However if this is a long series and you feel is worth it you can copy right a story/e-book for $35.

If you had this happen after that you could scan and e-mail them the copyright and they might pull the work

That worked for me about six months ago.

:D Yeah....I taught a biz law class as adjunct faculty just long enough to know I'm beating my chest more hopelessly than Willard M. Romney will be for the next 6 months.

But ya never know. Some of these insta-click, cookie setter web sites are little more than somebody with high speed access and enough of a knowledge of the 'how to's' to get them up and running and pray for more than the $9.99 a month hosting fee to come in. (hell, my ex and his hubby had THREE going at one time out of their "corporate office" in a spare bedroom...and i love them both, but neither can even SPELL 'copyright' ! hahahhaha)

I don't MIND being basically a "stabled smut slut" for LE....I look at this place as a great place to organize the rough draft really good; have a load of fun doin' it; and make some new friends and gain some potentially serious fans....if and when and maybe....I actually DO dive in the real publishing world pool and go for some $$$ for my finger (and slightly warped brain) creations.

After all....the potential for exposure on a 'Top 400 of all the net' web site, sure does come with the best price tag around! ;)

What I **DO** mind a whole HELLUVA LOT....is some cheap assed "John" treating me like a $10 gay punk hooker and just USING me....and then stealing my only Bic lighter when he ditches me after getting his nut, to boot!

*grin*

You haven't changed a bit, lol. ;) But seriously, now you see why I pulled my two main series since one has been subbed and the other will be later.

The site that nicked some of my stuff seemed to be a carefully constructed malware mule with a complex network of twitter re-tweeters to spread its content virally! I don't think they had a clue what was actually on their site. They just started with stories on Lit starting with 'A' and started working their way through alphabetically. Nasty emails from me had zero effect of course.

If it has malware, report it to the various anti-virus and anti-malware makers. Most of them have a place to report bad websites, and as soon as you do, they'll detect the malware.

Once that happens, the site will get blacklisted and blocked virtually everywhere, and nobody in their right mind would visit the site. Usually happens very quickly as well. The last one I reported to only a single reporting page was being blocked by virtually everything in less than 12 hours.

It won't get your stories off the site, but it will keep anyone but the terminally stupid from getting there :)

Now aren't you a clever one - I never thought of that!

Well, as some of the regular 'sages' make a (constant) point of saying - I sort of expect the story-theft now as part of the territory. I've started doing what you suggested one time - popping the 'You should only be seeing this story on Literotica' disclaimer at the beginning of my chapters. Again, probably makes zero difference, but hey :)

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/

Good place to start that hits 'em where it hurts. If Google picks up malware on the site, they'll be kicked out of Google listings permanently.

Then hit Symantec, AVG, Norton, the specific malware reporting databases, etc.

Facebook and Twitter will pick up the ball from one of those, and that will shut down all the angles.

A search for "Report Malware Website" on Google turns up most of them on the first page.

These are the easiest thieves to knock down, followed by numbskulls on servers that don't allow adult content.

Always look for the simple solution first :)

WhatEVER do you mean hot lady? I am still the sweet, innocent, wide-eyed boy that only dances thru the meadows chasing butterflies and wondering why clouds are white and the sky usually blue. :nana:

Just because I occasionally also question why one cloud looks like two, hot as hell, college hockey player studs....naked and taking turns slap-shotting pucks into each other's nets; doesn't mean I am truly bent, too....does it? :D

Now I do have show off my ignorance and ask: Be 'splainin that "subbed" thing Lucy, will youse, preeze? (I really don't know the term, and feel stupid  )

The rest of your comment does explain why one of my fav'd authors seemed to suddenly have many stories missing, though. :(

Yeah, but you should be able to buy a few plastic bic with the $10 he gave you. Now if you were using a zippo on the other hand that would be a problem.

A word of advice of you want to start selling at some point. When you do start from scratch.

If you put something on Amazon that is or was on lit you will have trouble. More likely than not it was lifted at some point and is all over the net and Amazon won;t let you sell what is "freely available on the internet"

I know because I recently had this problem.

Someone also told me (can't remember who) that a lot of stealing bots hit daily new stories lists as well as the top lists. Odds are just about every story here can be found elsewhere.

submitted. (no, not *that* kind, lol, calm down.) Sent to a publisher. :)

Don't worry about it! Nearly everyday I run into a new term and have to ask someone in my writing group what it means, lol.

A while ago, I ran across this site that had ripped off the story that is included. For some reason, they only took the first Literotica page.

http://www.freekimkardashianvideo.com/kim-kardashian-full-sex-tape/

Although I was given no credit, I felt rather proud they had chosen something by me to offer on their site. The odd thing is the story is mostly about Jennifer Lopez, with Kim Kardashian being mentioned only briefly. In a sequel to this story, I wrote a detailed story about sex with Kim the following night.
