I have a general idea of who is coming and when and where.. but we need to decided on what to do.

I'm all for a park thing. I'm leaning toward something on the MacKenzie River, but the problem with that is that there are a lot of them, and some of them are hard to find. The upside is that they probably wouldn't be crowded.

There are also parks in town. We might even be able to reserve the covered grilling/dining area at Hendrick's Park. It's got a gorgeous flower garden.

Fern Ridge comes to mind, too. It's nice and all, but it doesn't really grab me as the uber-park.

Just tossing out ideas. I don't have my heart set on any of these.

I know exactly how to get to Cougar Resevoir, and I've even bathed at the hot springs right up the road.

Oh, you want directions? Okay, it is in Willamette forest and it is off of Hwy 20 on the right hand side. I can't remember if it is past Cascadia or not. You follow 20 until you get to Willamette forest and then you go into the forest and follow the road. It takes you up a mountain and the dam is up there. If you stay to the right when the road splits the hot springs are right up the road on the right.



I'll go check a map if needed.

It is about an hour and a half, to two hours east of Eugene.

Okay, here is some stuff on Cougar...


There are some rules at Cougar:

1. Each visitor needs a day-use permit to use the Hot Springs area. This is the area from the parking lot to the Hot Springs, including the swimming lagoon. The cost is $3 per person. Children 6 and younger are free. You must have the permit in your possession and fill in today's date. You cannot purchase these permits at the site. They must be purchased in advance from one of the two stores en route, more than 10 miles from the Hot Springs. Until you fill in the date, the pass is good for any day.

2. Camping is $5 per site per night in the immediate area, which is designated campsites, located 2 miles south of the Hot Springs.

3. No alcohol.

4. No night use. The entire area, including the parking lot, is closed sunset to sunrise.

5. Dogs must be leashed in the dog area, which is 50 yards before the pools.

6. No overt sexual activity. Whatever

7. No illegal drugs.

Directions:
From Eugene, travel east 40 miles on highway 126 (the McKenzie Highway). Stop in Blue River if you want to buy a day permit at the Blue River Mercantile. Then continue another 5 miles and pass the mile post 45 sign. A half mile later, see the sign for Cougar Reservoir and turn right on FS 19.

From Bend, travel west on highway 20. After 20 miles you will pass through Sisters. After the Santiam Pass, you will stay on highway 20 when highway 22 splits off. Soon after, turn left onto highway 126. After another 40-50 miles you will see the sign announcing McKenzie Bridge. 3 miles later, you'll see Harbick's Country Store on your left. This is the only gas between Sisters and Cougar. You can also buy permits at Harbick's. Continuing west from Harbick's, go another 2 miles until you see the signs pointing to Cougar Reservoir. Turn left on FS19. (see above for directions once on FS19).

On FS 19 you are entering the Willamette Forest. Turn right at the stop sign. After 4 miles, you will pass the dam on your left. Continue on FS 19. Another 4 miles later, on your right you will pass a trail head sign that says "Terwilliger Hot Springs," the waterfall and lagoon on your right and the parking lot on your left. Park there.

Be sure to fill in the date on your permit, otherwise you can be issued a citation. From the trailhead hike 1/4 mile through the woods.

Terwilliger is the official name for Cougar Hot Springs. It's a good idea to purchase your permit in advance, since permits are not always available at the parking lot.

Okay, here is some stuff on Cougar...


There are some rules at Cougar:

It so sucks that they now have these rules - the hot springs there used to be free and open, but some few assholes ruined it for everybody else. Let me tell you, there is nothing like sitting in the hotsprings at midnight, enjoying some wine or weed (or both) and having a beautiful woman walk up to the pool, take off her clothes and sit there with you soaking in the pool while you stare up at the stars.

I guess what we need to find is a hotel/motel in the Eugene area with private hot-tubs; that would be almost as much fun.

BTW, no reports on Saturday's get-together??

I am back home now, after they ride through hell. There were at least 3 serious injury multi-car pile-ups in the rain - and those were just the ones I saw. I kept praying "please God, let me get home without laying the bike down or someone smashing into me from behind". When will people learn to stop tailgating, especially in the rain?

I personally vote on Sundays like the 14th, 21st, or 28th.. they are my only days off on the weekend.. otherwise I could come on Saturdays... but only after 6PM.

Or do we have to have it on a weekend? Is a weekday better for everyone?
