Normally, I never really worried about my bikini line, but I just got a new bathing suit after losing a bunch of weight and I really need to do my bikini line now (well, WANT to really.....most of the time I don't really care if people see a bit of hair, but it's bugging me).

So, I shaved it. Of course, I got the bumps and irritation. As per advice on here and other places, I was shaving it daily for a few days. But, the irritation was just getting worse and worse, so I left it alone. Now I have a little bit of growth coming in.

Should I just keep persisting and shave every day or every other day so that the irritation goes away?

If you continue to shave you should use this cream after shaving called tend skin, it prevents ingrown hairs (which it sounds like you had). Also waxing is so much better than shaving, lasts longer & gets you baby smooth & soft.

If the irritation is gone or minimal, you're probably safe trying to shave again. Like girl6 said, use a product specifically for razor burn (BikiniZone is the most common here, but I have good results with cortisone cream) immediately after patting dry. Also, are you exfoliating beforehand?

Some of the irritation might be caused by the heat and wetness in the area, too. You can try an unscented solid anti-perspirant like Sure, or dusting a bit of cornstarch on after shaving.

Despite regular shaving, I still get irritation in that specific area once in awhile (more likely if something's rubbed it, or there's heat buildup from exercising or summer). I just stop shaving and use cortisone until it subsides and resume, making sure to exfoliate, when it's better.

If you're just wanting to get rid of the hair that shows around the bikini line.....I would suggest waxing it. Less irritation, and you only need to do it every 4 weeks or so. But, if you want to stick with shaving, do as the others have suggested. Exfoliate thoroughly (for a good 5 minutes) before shaving, use a new razor as much as you can (blunt razors make irritation worse, I've found) and try and get your hands on something that helps prevent ingrowns. Also, exfoliating every day helps prevent ingrowns.

you never shave irritated skin daily? who the fuck told you to do that? of course that will only make it worse.

When I shave my private areas if I ever get razor bumps I mearly rub them fairly hard with a soapy washcloth in the shower, it hurts at first but they go away. At least for me.

I've been using a deplatory called 'Surgi-cream' with the best results.
I have no reaction (I can't use stuff like nail) and the hair seems to grow in slower.

I prefer the powder over the premixed...a lot cheaper ($1.50 at Walmart for a cannister) and I can make it the consistency I like/want/need. I can also mix the type with Aloe with the Extra Strength for a bit more effectiveness without the irritation. YMMV :)

I think the worst day of irritation was from some ill fitting underwear. I've lost 35lbs in the last 4 months and not everything fits well right now. My definition of "fits" is "not falling off" right now.
