Yet Another Computer Question...Imagine That.

Howdy, all.

Yep, another computer question...and this time it is about the monitor.

When I look at whatever is displayed on the screen, it is 'jumpy'. It started rather abruptly. It simply jerks around a bit, like the resolution is off. But everything seems okay...of course, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for, but none of the settings have changed.

I can still use the computer (obviously) and I can still see everything on the screen...but the 'jumping' is getting very annoying.

I have tried shutting it down, I did all the basics like defrag and scandisk, and still nothing works.

Any ideas?

Hmmm...could be your video card, loose connection to the pc from the moniter, or your moniter is...well...going bad. have you tried a degauss? Everytime you turn on the moniter it should degauss, but most of them have a way to degauss either one them or by an on screen. Probably won't help much, but if it does, look around for any magnetic or radio frequency device that may be too close to your pc.

have any phones or speakers near your monitor? move them if you do....anything with magnets in them
Nextel phone can cause bad magix with monitors too


also try this...

right click on your desktop and go to PROPERTIES then SETTINGS
you are looking for REFRESH RATE
change it to another setting and see if that helps

if none of this helps than the monitor has had too much porn displayed on it and you need another one....if you get another monitor spend the extra money and get a LCD screen

I did check for magnets and played with the refresh rate, just to be sure, and just because I was curious. But it seemed the degauss worked this time.

2. If degauss really fixed it, I expect that it will return.

Sounds like the horizontal isn't staying in sync. When the monitor looses it, then regains it, it regains it in a different position. Thus the horizontal jump. (I assume this describes the problem...)

The degauss, being a strong magnetic pulse, has probably jerked/stressed some metal which changed a connection in the circutry.

For example, the metal fram is flexing enough to twist the printed circut board, and over time, a trace has started to crack or come loose. The new pulse flexes the PCB which closes the crack enough to restore a good connection.

Hope that I'm wrong, or beter yet, you're rich enough to go get a good flat panel!
