Well, it wasn't a professionally taken pic- no face shot either, so it is questionable...

The way to verify that any photo is truly something that the sender took themselves is to have them write something you request on a piece of paper (or on their body) and have it in the pic, or something that is unique to them. Or they could do something that you request them to do - such as give you the finger.

Even then, they could have someone else do the posing for them.
