I'm with the naysayers on this one.

Regardless of why a fetus might yawn, the physiology which constitutes the very act is a large inhalation and exhalation of air accompanied by the stretching of various muscles.

Since the unborn fetus is still encased in a liquid environment, I'm pretty certain inhaling and exhaling are not taking place.

I have only given birth 5 times, so I am no expert..but I have had u/s's that have showed 'yawning'. After a few moments after birth- all of mine yawned. They hiccup for months inside the womb, something we all do once we take our first breath. They practice everything else while they are waiting to come into this world, why is what 'they' perceive as yawning, any different?

I read the link and no where did I see that they claimed it was anything other than, what I would assume to be, amniotic fluid that was being inhaled or exhaled. Babies are awesome like that. :)

It's unfortunate that when this thread was inspired by the Burning Man thread last night...

...more weren't present to appreciate the genius involved.

In fact, at one point last night...

...Yawning Fetus Burning Man were consecutive thread titles, which somehow seemed aptly poetic.

Guess you had to be there...

...now, of course, a veteran wannabe has not unexpectedly jumped onto the bandwagon with a Yawning Lizard thread.

Which, evidently, must rely on images instead of raw genius...

...sad, that.

I did my best to revive your ridiculous thread with a solid B- joke.

Maybe if the fetus would get off it's ass and do something it wouldn't be bored and yawning all the time. Fucking fetuses are known to be lazy motherfuckers. Get a fucking job.

Fluid is still fluid, and inhaling and exhaling are still lung functions and lungs typically don't function well when they're filled with fluid. I think I remember from my junior high sex ed class that the fetus gets oxygen from the mother by a different process.

But, hey, I could be wrong. I didn't study that chapter nearly as closely as "Boners and Vages."

Unborn babies don't breathe at all. They do inhale and exhale fluid but it's not breathing.

Unborn babies is an interesting choice of words for all of you who see no problem with our current president's approval of partial birth abortion.

My mom always told me that abortion should be legal until the kid turns 18.

...Remember how I said in another thread that I have mental issues? One of those is that I am legitimately scared of that woman. She did not say this as a joke.

I have no doubt that you got yourself a ton of mother issues.

Since we're ll in here being smart asses and correcting each other's fuck ups I think it's worth pointing out that fluid=/=liquid.

I didn't study that stuff real well in school either, I've been told there is some kind of pipe inside of a woman.

No it isn't.
