"Y'all"

I was wondering when the plural of y'all would be used. At least, that's how the term "all y'all" was explained to me once by a tall Texas beauty, rest her soul.

I like Y'all'er all when you need to address multiple groups. Like this: "Y'all'er all annoying, all ya'll can tuck your beaks or go eat hot fresh shit."

What's with young people saying "y'all" all the time now?

When I was growing up this was considered not only improper English but looked down on as a "hillbilly" or uneducated white Southern form of speech.

Now it appears that its "cool" among young people. I don't know if its some rap or ebonics thing but regardless its fucking annoying and needs to stop.

Get over it!!

There's a LOT more stuff going on in this world that you should be worrying about than how someone talks.

Besides, you're NOT going to change them or keep them from saying it.

French "VOUS" is doing the same thing now that "YOU" already went through, moving from 2nd p plural to 2nd p singular (formal), and will someday probably kick out "TU" altogether. We no longer say "THEE," or "THOU," or "YE." Only "YOU." Modern English is missing a word to fill the 2nd person plural slot. Y'ALL, YOU'UNS, and YOU GUYS, are the most popular contenders. What's your favorite?

Initially, I had a southern accent that got polished off around the country, but I never picked up yes ma'am and no sir and I never acquired y'all. In Lou-z-Anna I remember it sounding more like yoo-all, in any case.

..
I'm from the South and I just wanted to take this time to say fuck y'all.
