"New English dictionary to include Internet-speak

A new dictionary has been published that includes the latest Internet terms. The Times English Dictionary has definitions for hundreds of words that have orginated from the online revolution. Matthew Warren has more.

Researchers waded through three hundred million words from eleven thousand different sources to produce the dictionary. Compilers estimate about five hundred new computer-related words and terms have been introduced since 1990. Some of them are traditional words, but with their own Internet definitions. One of the people who helped produce the new dictionary is Ramesh Krishnamurthy. He says many of the new words are used so frequently, they needed to be included.

Ramesh Krishnamurthy said:

Things like "cyber cafe", "netiquette" - which is the kind of rules that you observe for politeness-sake when you're using the Internet. And most people now are aware of "e-mail", the older forms of sending mail like the post are now called "snail mail." You can see there's a word-eats-word situation out there, some will stay in the language and some won't.

Other words to be found in the dictionary are "Java" - the web's programming language and "flame", an abusive message by e-mail. But not all Internet-related words made it through the selection process. "Dot Com", a short-term for internet related business - was left out. Matthew Warren in London.

I have some problems also, but not those. Mine are leaving off the names of people, and being slow sometimes. But I do enjoy it though.

Now I log in and it logs me out minutes later?
Arggggggggh.
:p

If you were sucking me, you'd never notice the log-in and log-out.
