Hello Goodly People of Lit,

I am a voracious reader and I actually read a great deal of young adult novels. I promise there's more to it than sparkly vampires and love triangles.

Some of the best books I read in the last year were YA. Like, The Tragedy Papers by Eric Laban, Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick. I enjoy beautifully written, funny stories with heart and authenticity. I can do dystopian, even though it's a tad overdone recently. Call it The Hunger Games syndrome (not to besmirch Ms. Everdeen). Any reading recommendations in the YA vein, please send them my way. Or write if you just want to talk about books you love and authors that inspire you.

And finally, of course, happy new year, internet folk. Hopefully yours doesn't start off too wretchedly hung over.

I've got a recommendation for you that a friend gave me quite a few years ago and I loved it...Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series is really good...I enjoyed the first 3 books best, but the 4th book was done from the perspective of a different character...Although I read it, I didn't enjoy it as much as the others...

Another YA series the same friend recommended that I really got into was what is now called the Frozen (Cold Awakening) series by Robin Wasserman...Originally it was titled Skinned, but they changed it...Anyway, I really enjoyed those books too...There were only 3 books when I read it, I don't know if there are more...Robin Wasserman also has another series, the 7 Deadly Sins, I never read it...I saw the Lifetime movie and that was more than enough...
