Will Literotica.com become Literotica.xxx?
Plans to establish a new internet domain specifically for pornography are to proceed after internet regulators approved the .xxx suffix for adult entertainment sites.....On Friday, the board of Icann said that it would allow the .xxx domain to be overseen by ICM Registry – the backer of the scheme – although a number of board members reportedly opposed the resolution.

The backers of the scheme said that it will provide reassurance to those visiting pornography websites that they are protected from the risk of viruses, identity theft, credit card fraud and inadvertent exposure to child abuse images. They also claim that it will provide individuals and parents who wish to avoid adult entertainment sites the opportunity to filter out unwanted .xxx material.

Anti-pornography campaigners argued that the move legitimises the sex industry, and it also drew criticism from some parts of the adult entertainment business, who said that forcing sex sites into a specific corner of the internet would inevitably increase censorship.
Rest here.

There will go being able to access it from coffee shops. It will be quite easy to block the whole lot then.

I think this is an idea whose time hasn't come and never will.

I don't understand how it will make any difference here. If anything, people will be more reluctant to report credit card ripoffs because it will mean admitting visiting porn sites.

I consider it already legit, and I agree with sr that censorship will be easier.

It won't make any more difference at the coffee shop than it does now. There are so many ways around such blockage that it's totally impotent, no pun intended..

Oh, please, tell me how to get around it! I can't access Lit when I'm at Coffee Bean! Bastards! (and I really am just coming here for the essays!)

There's been a sex industry since before time. Why are they bothering ?

Shades of Larry Flynt vs. the U.S.

They tried to stop him from publishing Hustler all those decades ago and now it's moved to internet porn for the new generation of bible-thumping, sexually repressed do-gooders.

Pornography is like life and will always find a way to continue on.

From what I've read I've not seen anything that indicates business or sites will be forced to use the .xxx domain. Is Lit under any obligation to move?

Not that I can tell, and likely it'd be hard to make that happen over the internet, it's not like movies where they won't make it to the theater without a rating. But one can never tell how these will play out.

I'm just wondering if Lit would do that.
