I've got Playstation 1, plan on getting PSX2 when it drops below $150 for the thing and you can find games cheap in pawn shops. What?? I'm frugal. The word is frugal not cheap. Okay. So I'm cheap. It's a good thing dammit.

Anyway, I have no intention of buying the X-box. Microsoft products are not that interesting to me. I use Windows 98 only because I have other members of the family who are not terribly computer literate and learning a new O/S when they don't have to doesn't make sense to them. I do not use Word or MS Office products. I think WordPerfect is a superior product anyway.

But this X-Box thing. That's just a cheesy rip trying to buy their way into the gaming community. I do hope that X-Box and Nintendo's Game Cube make PSX2 drop in price, like seriously drop in price.

Thoughts?

I have a PlayStation which I never play. It's in the box somewhere in the house. I have a computer which I'm madly in love with. I don't give a flying fuck about no Xbox.

PS2 all the way.

Why?? simple.

Combine the X-box, Game Cube and Dreamcast, and you got all the features you get in 1 PS2.

PS2 has all the cool games anyways, plus a DVD player, PLus Video CD player, PLus Net Access, Plus it has some cool assecories too.

Don't play games, never had a Nintendo, Play Station or anything like that. I have my computer, my dolls & work way too many hours. Besides, games would take away from my surfing time.

i have already purchased a PS2 for my son for christmas...and a few games for it as well...but dont say anything he thinks its from santa:D ;)

It comes with a regular DVD player? I could play both games and DVD from the same thing? Screw the X-box, how much is PS2?

I am not going to buy any kind of game playing hardware except maybe some kind of joystick for my computer. Games for the most part bore me - I play Freecell or Othello sometimes, and I used to play Road Rash, but I haven't in over a year.

Yes the PS2 can function as a Game Console, DVD player, CD player and an internet station if you have the right assesories to it.

Current Price is 299$ I believe.

I'll admit it. I'm sick, I need help. I'll probably be getting an X-Box, for one reason: Raw is War, the WWF game. If even half of the features advertised for this game end up working out, it's going to kick serious ass.

Someone else mentioned comparisons of systems; X-Box has a faster processor, more memory, and higher oversampling rate than the PS2 or GameCube, enabling more intricate games with better graphics. It's true that the PS2 is DVD ready right out of the box, however, and Gran Tourismo 3 is a big reason I also want a PS2.

SpectreT, you also has to think about the game compatibility and prices for the same.

The game cube is gonna come out 100 dollars cheaper than the X-box, making it harder for Microsoft to get a good foot hold on the gaming community. But, their graphics are superior, I think.....so that gives them a slight advantage....

But as far as buying one? Yea, I think I will, mainly for the wrestling game coming out.......

I love wrestling, what can I say. :D

Fuck that, I just want a playstation. My Ex broke mine, grrr.

Anyone wanna sell me a PS1?

I do not care.
I do NOT care at all.

The kids have one of those things.
Their dad keeps it updated.
He buys all the new stuff for it.

I do not care.
I don't even know how to turn it on and i do NOT want to learn.

Those kinda games make me all shaky and tense. I can get there on my own without paying for the pleasure, thank you, so i do not care at all about those kinda machines.

Any questions?
:p

I am going to have to buy the Game Cube. They will only be putting my games on there from now on..sigh....but at the moment I have every game system but the new ones. Poor addicted me. ;)

I'm gonna wait. I'm a Nintendo fan, born and raised on Mario and the likes since the NES days. I was broken hearted when Square took the Final Fantasy series to the PSX, but aside from FF7, I didn't miss much (FF8 was a technological bore, and FF9 was simply more of the same, which I've had my fill of, thank you). Besides, if I were to do without my Zelda, Banjo-Kazzoie and Perfect Dark, I might have gone a little nuts.

But this generation is different. The Dreamcast has the most inovative games, but the system is now dead. The PS2 is an outdated accessory-riden ($$$) piece of hardware, but does have a huge fanbase and a one year jump concerning games. The X-box has supporters and some nice hardware features, but is clunky (played w/it at GenCon, was not impressed) and, well IS Microsoft after all.

As for the GameCube? Cheaper and will be fully present come Christmas - and has familiar mascots coming to its system. But no innovative games yet (a problem for the big three systems in general). Maybe my roommate's Dreamcast has spoiled me. :) But if there's no maracas, no sale!

Instead, I'll be looking for a Gameboy Advance under the tree this year. With Mario Kart (a la the SNES version ... the best - period), PacMan Arcade and Shining Force coming to it (and being GameCube compatible if I do get one), it's the sure bet!

Just my take, though.

It's great, I live close to twoof my brothers, one of them has the PS2, I will be getting the Game Cube, and the other will get the X-Box. We're just going to rotate them every month.

Soon...

PS2: Metal Gear Solid 2
Game Cube: Rogue Squadron 2
X-Box: Halo

*sniff* I love family

This summer me and a friend installed a mobile DVD player and PS2 in his Camaro. It has a dozen speakers, two 10 inch 1000 watt MTX subs, two 700 watt MTX amps and digital surround sound. When you play a racing game in that car it is total sound immersion. To bad the screen is only seven inches wide, if it was bigger it would be the perfect place to play games.

I know the PS2 can play DVD's but the ones I have seen on it look very grainy. Maybe it was just the display we were using, but it not seem to be a very good DVD player.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the article on slashdot the other day

In a certain radius there are 10 Toys-R-us stores all with one X-box for a demo. Out of the 10 X-boxes TWO worked.

Typical MS

Azwed, make sure you run the video cable directly from the PS2 to the TV, the DVD's have copy protection on them that will fuck up the picture if ran through another device. Other than that I don't know what to tell you, all the ones I have seen have worked wonderfully as DVD players, full featured, crisp, great audio, the whole shebang.

Yes, my brother's works beautifully for DVDs

Alright...here's something to keep in mind. Microsoft might make games that I wouldn't even cross the street to piss on...but they've already got several 3rd party companies in their pocket (and those are deep pockets)

I own a PS2 and it's the biggest piece of shit I've ever wasted my money on..there are only about 6 games that are even worth renting. And the reason Square left Nintendo was that Nintendo's technology couldn't stay up with what their future plans were. The PS2 is hard to program for and has about 1/3 the capabilities of the XBox. The only reason anyone bought a PS2 was because of how good the original Playstation was.

For the long haul...I'd go with the Xbox.
