He has every right to activate the National Guard for what he decides is an emergency. That is a power invested in the Governors of each state. An argument for or against the necessity of sending them to the southern border can be made, but doing so is his call.
That said, once activated, they need to be treated like any other public safety state employee. A lackadaisical approach to paying them, ignoring some of the problems they are experiencing such as family problems, not being able to pay their bills and other personal hardships are total and utter bullshit.

Having spent 7 years in the guard here in my state and having been activated by the state more than once I understand how those Guardsmen feel. I think Abbott needs to get his head out of his ass and do what he should be doing, take care of his fucking troops., Asshole.
