God, I feel like I am at JC Penny's matching Geranimal color coded clothes like I did when I was a kid.

Level Orange? Is this the same as agent Orange? Where does Orange Slice come into play? Could it be Ashcroft is a Tennessee Vols fan (Go Big Orange is their motto for those that dont get that one)??

or could this be some weird kind of CYOA thingy where they always say "we have undisclosed evidence of a unnamed threat that we cannot give any specifics about"

Translation: "we dont have a fucking clue whats going on or where it may go on, but By GOD, we can say we told you so when/if it does happen"

way to go Dubya, I feel much safer now

LOL.

I was just thinking that. We're at Orange here in NYC.

Does this mean I get to stay home from owrk tomorrow?

bbw,

This seems like a most non-bunchworthy subject.

Go Vols! :)
PC I do agree with you, but these threats codes just grate my nerves!

Oh and if you are going to watch the UT/UF game, look for me on TV, I will be the dude dressed in Orange :D

I don't think it matters. Could be colors, could be numbers. Didnt' it used to be numbers?

Oh, and PC, what the fuck does bunchworthy mean?

Level Lavender:
High chance of rampant gays.

Level Red:
A large group of college professors have moved into the area.

Level Green:
A plant? In NYC?
Kill it!

Level plaid. Large amounts of Scotts in kilts have arrived. Hide your Ale.

This is all new to me, and so insane. College sports just aren't treated like religion in California, maybe because we have about fifty colleges and universities and they all have their own teams. Plus, with a dozen pro sports teams, college sports just never acheive God-like status out there.

They sold out that stadium last saturday, 107,360-something. Infuckingcredible. I'd like to go to a game but the vixen says it's almost more of a headache than it's worth.

Its wild there on Game Day. I dont go to a lot of the games, but yes it can be a headache...or at least by the nest morning. I still cant remember all the details after the Florida game in '98. All I know is I was one of the druken assholes helping carry the CBS camera down the strip

The population of Lincoln Nebraska TRIPPLES when there is a home game. Tripples. Unfuckingbelievable. Kick ass games though. lol I say it's worth the expirience if you WANT to see a bunch of people go completely insane and you don't mind getting knocked around a lot. I had a blast.

Now what the fuck does bunchworthy mean?

If something is unbunchworthy it means it's not worth getting your panties in a bunch over.

I didn't really think he was getting his panties bunched, but it was a good excuse to use the word.

IOW, he was pseudo-ranting, not really genu-ranting.

Understand?

Yes, thank you. But if you're considering putting out a Problem Child to English Dictionary please let me know. I'm sure I'll need it eventually.

(sarcastic comment mostly edited out in the interest of reasonable discourse)

or I will act all superior like and call you clueless for trying to protect me...

The color codes are a serious attempt to prevent future 9/11s... for those who are concerned about such things...

Nonsense

The color codes are a cheap, transparent political ploy used to manipulate public opinion. They have absolutely nothing to do with protecting Americans from terrorist attacks.

exfuckingscuse me? you really have to be kidding here, for they have raised and lowered these silly ass codes every week since 9/11 it seems. Also, why NOT say what the actual threat is. If they KNOW you know and are prepared, the chances thereby go down.

Just how is a color code going to protect you, I, or anyone else? That is my question. For Gods sake, just act upon the information if it is so damned serious.

This is the very first time that the codes have been raised to Orange since they were instituted. Yes, there have been a number of false alarms, and we will continue to have them -- better safe than sorry seems to be the rationale, and it is a good one. The specific threats, according to this mornings news are against US embassies in Asia, and oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, and specific actions are being taken with regard to those threats. In the US a number of specific, precautionary measures are being put into effect as a result of the increase to Level Orange -- and warning the public is one of them.

TY for actually replying in an intelligent non abusive way. Now is it not possible that the fact they have raised the level to red so many times people will become jaded in case there ever is an actual threat? The larger question it brings up is the tale of "Chicken Little". You can only yell the sky is falling so many times. To warn is a good thing, I never intended to imply that it was not. It just seems to me that every time you intercept a phone call, whatever, and you go on the news preaching a "hightend sense of awareness" or an "unspecified threat" your running the risk of people not paying attention. Sorry, we are going to disagree on this one, I still see it as a CYOA thing. I really hope I am wrong, for if I am not, its a huge travesty.

Thank you for your intelligent reply. Those are some serious issues -- but what are the right answers? It is a damned if you do, and damned if you don't thing. With 9/11, we had reason to believe that some terrorists had some vague plans regarding airplanes. Much too vague and non-specific to do anything about, so 9/11 happened without warning. Now we get warnings all the time -- and sure, all so far have turned out to be false alarms. Part of it probably is CYOA -- if there is another major terrorist attack, and there was even a smidgen of information that could have been used in a warning, then the people who did not act on that information will be destroyed by the media, and likely in Congressional hearings. So, you do the best you can, and try to find the line between warning too often until no one pays attention anymore -- and maybe missing the real thing by not warning. Peter and the Wolf seems the better story analogy to me.

Personally, I think we may disclose too much. If I were a reasonably intelligent terrorist (and these people are not stupid), I would spread false threats on a regular basis -- and see which ones the US responds to. If the threat draws a response, then that information delivery system or cell is likely compromised, and should only be used for spreading disinformation. If there is no response -- then you have found a secure route for planning and executing a real operation. They are probably doing this right now, would be my guess.

you bring up a valid point in the false reports, but I personally feel that they need to root out which ones are false and which ones are true. I cant buy the fact this is not within the realm of reasonable. I am no war hawk and have been vocal with my displeasure for the sabre rattling Bush is doing over Iraq. However, in this situation where there is a real viable threat covert millitary action is more than acceptable, and very much expected. The governments chief role is protection of the nations interests, putting fear into the hearts of its citizenry is not.
