Hi

I am so glad I found literotica. I cannot believe there is such a wealth of information about writing erotica in one place, and of such quality. I hope to work my way through all of the information, but noticed one matter that I wanted to ask other writers about in more detail straight away.

In the excellent Guide for Amateur Writers of Erotica in the Resource Section, bs904 writes:

"Most erotic fiction written by amateurs is for themselves first and their audience second. There is nothing wrong with this, and if this is the case, feel free to write your story while sexually aroused.

If, however, you are writing for your readers, it is a good idea NOT to be sexually aroused when you're writing. After all, you want to write a story which will arouse other people, and not necessarily yourself. Your own personal turn-ons might well excite others, but a clinical detachment and thorough knowledge of the sexual proclivities of your target audience will be far more effective at accomplishing your goal."

I was wondering what other people think about this. Whether I am writing for myself, or for what I hope to be a target audience, I am afraid I fall at the first hurdle. I can't approach a blank page with an erotic thought or scenario in my mind without getting aroused. If I do start off only slightly aroused, by the time I get into full flow I am normally horny as hell.

I write with the scenario firmly in my mind's eye as it develops and simply write what I see. Although I can imagine myself editing in cold blood, there is no way I can write without getting steamy.

Can other people manage to write without arousal?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Thank you literotica for providing such a wonderful resource,

Writing and doing, it well is hard work. The old adage of it being 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration is a truism. You might be aroused during the first draft but by the final one, so times ten draft down the line and weeks later, it's about as exciting as socks.

Writing when Aroused

Hi vrosej10

Yes I hadn't quite thought about it that way. By the time you get to draft 10 it is a bit stale. How do you ensure that the final draft is as arousing as the first? I suppose you could always leave it to one side for a period of time and re visit it later.

Thanks for sharing,

You keep your content good. You own arousal does not guarantee others will find it hot. You should always put work aside and give it sometime to breath.

Here is my technique; I write the lead in (my stories don't usually start with sex) I then do a rough draft of what, if anything, will follow the sex in that chapter so when I am doing this I am "working" as Vrose put it and paying attention. When I am done I envision my sex scene, envision myself in the sex scene and occasionally will even watch a little porn, at that point I'm worked up and the sex scene flows extremely well. now of course I just let it fly because I'm worked up and not going for grammar. when I'm done and I go hunt down the wife (who loves when i wrote sex scens) I then come back and look at the smut from the "technical" standpouint and fix all the misspellings caused by my anxious fingers. By this time I am calm and satisfied and I work the "aftermath" of the sex. But once again this is me and it works. doesn't sound like it would for the other author. I think you will through experience find your own method as no 2 minds really click the same way. Good luck.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Translate the medium to movies or videos from writing: Would you rather watch porn actors who are cold-blooded about their work, or who are really into it? This is why amateur porn vids are so much better than pro porn vids.:heart::devil:

A woman after my own heart! The amatuer porn is very realistic and as a guy it doesn't make me feel inferior the scenes are start to finshi 10 minutes. not that shit where two girls are blowing the guy for 10 minutes then he fucks for like another 10. please I wouldn't make it three.

Here's what I find to be true about most experiences:

If the experience is excellent its as grand the 10th time as the 1st. That is, its enchanting. The real question is: How do you make your tale enchanting?

I sometimes write fetish stories.

I see them as a challenge. If I can write a fetish story that interests those who like that fetish, even if it does nothing at all for me, then I have succeeded as a writer.

However, some fetishes are so obscure than anything written for them is likely to work, because so few stories exist on that fetish.

For other stories, I might be aroused by the original idea of the story, but by the time I get to writing it done, that arousal is long gone, being replaced by a drive to complete the story. That is a wholly different sort of arousal.

So do I. I absolutely love searching arou
nd in the corners of sexuality looking for the weird stuff.

I think it's unsupported barf. I think it can be made to work either way. A clinical detachment can come across to the reader as just that as well as easily as the technique could work. Creative writing doesn't need sweeping generalizations as that given (with no evidence given to support it).

When I'm writing a sex scene, or events leading to a sex scene, I have to sit on a fucking towel. If I didn't feel that way, I think there'd be a problem. If I don't love my characters and find them sexy, how could I expect anyone else to?

Writing when Aroused

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the suggestions and input. I have to say Lovecraft, your method seems to gel well with my own.

As I suspected, and in line with any sort of creative writing, what works for some doesn't necessarily work for others. I will keep my mind open and see how my writing progresses. I will also occasionally try to keep an eye on my mind's eye as it writes to see what it is I actually do and what turns out my best writing. Then repeat!

I will continue to go through the Resources Section in literotica. It is a mine of valuable information.

Humpf. Just because you don't appreciate a sock fetish!

I find if I write when I'm horny I write better porn. If I write when I'm not, I write better stories.

There is no universal formula that will make every story a 5+. Would that there were! My experience is that you have to be turned on, but keep it under control. A pitcher can't just rear back and throw; a boxer who comes out throwing a wild flurry of punches will wind up on his/her butt pretty quickly. You have to let the situation percolate in your mind; sure, write it down in redhot haste, but then go back, and go back, and make it your best. I'm working on a story now that started in my head almost 15 years ago, and only now is on paper in first draft. Securing consent from the copyright holder will be a bummer, but that's by the way. Paul Masson had it right: "We will sell no wine before its time."

Bebe, I'm gonna quote my man Hemingway again, only he's quoting Sylvia Beach: "All writers ever talk about is their troubles."

I don't write sex stories per se, I write stories with sex in them. Strokers are okay for what they are and more power to those who write them. I've written a few, but I'd rather work some plot in amongst the erotic couplings. People are sexual beings by nature anyway, so it's not exactly a stretch. :D

Short version: Write what you like and strive to improve.
