I know a few folk here write under various different noms de plume. And I know one of the reasons is to try and shake off trolls.
Just wondering: has anyone posted the same story under different author names and, if so, has the voting been markedly different?

Some. And it has been a bit different now and then. But not radically different, at least for me. Maybe it's that I tend to avoid LW most of the time.

I don't post my work formally for this very reason. I've had trolls make very negative comments about my poetry. I doubt I'd have a realistic chance here if I did submit and post it. I think you have to judge how persistent the trolling is and whether or not it would be mildly or strongly trolled.

I used to have an alt just for stories. Not because of trolls but because I wasn't really comfortable with the subject matter and used the alt as sort of an alter ego. Plus I didn't know what people might think of me. Now I've stopped using my other login and I'm just using the alt because I realised people probably don't, and I don't, really give a crap.

I consider TheeGoatPig to be my alt, even though it is the only online personna that I have. If I were being totally honest, I would posts stories under my real name ;)

Sorry if you've heard this since I've mentioned this in another post, but I submitted White Trash, Ch 1 under an alt in the LW category as troll bait. I sort of failed because a lot of people liked it, it got about 15 comments, and a 3.77 vote overall (I was shooting lower). I changed the ending slightly, resubmitted it under "jomar" in the Group Sex category and it has a 4.43 score with 37 votes and one comment. I'm sure the slightly different ending and different category made the difference rather than my alt.

Yes

I posted the same story as Og and as Jeanne D'Artois - by mistake.

Og had more views. Jeanne had more PCs.

Neither had any significant number of votes. The story didn't reach 10 votes under either name.

Jeanne has more feedback from apparent males making *interesting* suggestions. The feedback shows that they haven't read Jeanne's profile.

Og

The only time I would even consider using an alt would be if I venture back into the lesbian category. My first two trips as a guy were rough to say the least....

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger here.

Uh oh. I ventured, but it's not approved yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

What's particularly interesting is the disparity in rating on that story. But with fewer than 10 votes, it probably isn't significant.

Thanks to those who replied. I was curious as to whether readers are biased by author names or not.

Profiles require a click. People don't even read my signature when it is in front of their face and so I get offers for chats from guys who only see my AV's.
