Writing outside of your proclivaties

On a completely different topic I wrote something about this... I don't think I will ever write about any kink that is not something I am at least interested in. There are authors who try to write in every single category, even in those they don't know much about. I don't think that is something that can be realistically pulled off. I can almost always tell when an author tries to write about a kink he is unfamiliar with. You will always notice how the author generally touches everything associated with that kink, and to me, it always looks fake.

- Have you or do you often write outside of your own personal proclivaties? (whatever this word means to you)
- How did it worked out for you?
- How did you cope with parts of the proclivaties that you weren't sure about?
A LOT of my stories are written from outside my experiences or preferences. I have several written first person from a woman's perspective. I'm definitely not a woman. In fact my alt, Elloelle, is just about the complete opposite of me. I've even written from the perspective of a demon/cat. That's kind of the point for me. I like to challenge myself to write what is not me.

How did I cope with the different characters? I've done some 3rd person stuff and to breath a character to life you have to put yourself in that character and develop their thinking. Same with 1st person. Same with writing from a perspective not your own.

How did it work out? I think they were successful, but have a look and you tell me.
