Writing on Request

I was wondering if Authors here have written stories at specific requests. I've not done so, but have been approached by a couple of readers. What have your experiences been like when you have written on request?

I did custom written erotica for a while, and got paid for it. I was actually starting to make some decent money, but I also found it was *really* starting to eat into my 'other' writing time. By that, I mean my horror and erotic horror writing was suffering, and that is what I see myself doing, in the long term.

I had a page on my old website, advertising "Custom Erotica" and I got a lot of interest, enquiries and clients through it, but it was actually a victim of its own success. I have dropped that now, although I do still write custom stories for one or two people that I really hit it off with; it's now done on a no-pay friendship level.

Writing custom erotica can be great, that is if you can do it, and enjoy it. In the beginning, I found it tougher than I thought I would. The 'client' (for want of a better word) gives you a brief character outline and synopsis, and often they go into great detail about certain things. And, you have to write the story around their requirements. It can be straightforward, if you enjoy writing in that way, and about the topics they suggest, but it can also be very tough, because it greatly limits your creative freedom - that's the main reason why I dropped it. I no longer had the time, and I had to prioritise. I decided to write purely what I want to write.

Ihaven't had the success Lou has, but I have written pieces for specific people, within specific parameters. Unlike Lou Lou, I wasn't getting paid, so the amount of specific content the person I was writing for was mine to limit. It does limit your creative freedom, but it also can teach you disciplned writing.

I like it and still do it for specific women in my life.

A lot of my stories have been written for specific readers. I used their names and wrote a story using their descriptions and had the characters doing what she likes to do. Karen's Birthday", a six part novella is an example. I actually wrote that for a woman named Karen and sent it to her on her birthday. I found it a lot of fun to do because the plot is spelled out for me. The readers tend to like it too. You can sort of tell which stories were written for specific people because they include more description of the women. I have only written these for women.

I have made a bit of cash doing custom erotica....I had a guy who aske me to write a few stories for him. I found it easy to do but sometimes it took me some time to get motivated on doing any work on the custom story..especially if i had an idea of my own on the go.


I haven't had any more requests though but i'd happily write for cash again...it was a great buzz really*L*

Also I've written pieces for people i know, my hubby, online lovers....but they don't usually request them i just write them to cater for their likes and dislikes. Often as presents.

Hi, DM. I have to disagree with the last sentence. I always liked to include some very distinctive detail if the woman would tell me and wanted me to. That way, she could point to it to prove the story was about her. A good example is the story I wrote about Bianca, that includes her nipple ring and two tattoos on her body.

I understand completely, and have included such things, but they aren't put is such a way as their family would know.

I love to have a Muse in mind while I am writing. It's not a commercial relationship at all--I strike up an email friendship with someone who has responded to something I wrote or vice versa, and I start to write "for" that person. She is not dictating what I do in the least--usually she loves to be surprised--but she is capable of appreciating what I do both in an unconditional love way and in a detailed crit sort of way. She does not tolerate sloppiness or lapses in logic, but she glories in what I do right.

I keep an idea of my Muse's pleasure in the back of my head as I write, and it's a wonderful stimulus. Even after we no longer correspond daily, that Ideal Reader is my audience. If I wrote "only" for myself, I might not write everything down, because it's already in my head anyway. If I have a Muse to entertain, I can't write fast enough.

I have had several wonderful Muses at different stages of my amateur writing career. For two of them, I wrote entire novels.
